Requirements
  • Must have experience in development operations for a medical school or equivalent nonprofit fundraising environment
  • Strong track record in major gifts solicitations five-, six-, and seven-figure gifts
  • Ability to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors; manage donor portfolios
  • Experience with donor relations and stewardship programs
  • Knowledge of fundraising campaigns and capital campaigns (Campaign 150)
  • Ability to develop and manage annual giving programs and donor recognition
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge or similar donor management systems
  • Strong collaboration with senior leaders, faculty, and volunteers
  • Ability to travel regionally and nationally and manage travel budget
  • Excellent communication and briefing skills with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience with prospect research and reporting mechanisms
  • Ability to meet fundraising goals and manage a large group of donors and prospects
  • Experience coordinating with corporate and foundation relations
  • Experience in stewardship activities and donor engagement events
  • Ability to manage budgets
Responsibilities
  • Create development plan to research and identify new prospects and build a portfolio of 75-100 active donors and prospects
  • Build and maintain knowledge of School of Medicine funding priorities and giving opportunities
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gifts
  • Coordinate foundation and corporation requests with Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations
  • Collaborate with other major gift officers on blended gift solicitations
  • Organize prospect visits with the Dean and key Meharry faculty/staff/trustees
  • Manage the School’s annual giving program and efforts including development and implementation of annual giving mail/email programs
  • Develop and oversee donor recognition programs and stewardship activities
  • Record fundraising progress in Raiser's Edge and maintain timely documentation
  • Collaborate with Advancement Operations to create reporting mechanisms for donor contributions
  • Regularly meet with AVP for prospect assignments and portfolio reviews
  • Request and utilize prospect research as appropriate
  • Meet/exceed goals for monthly visits and yearly proposals; manage large donor/prospect groups
  • Travel regionally and nationally to meet donors; monitor travel budget
  • Represent Institutional Advancement in internal education/outreach
  • Collaborate with Alumni Relations and College departments to engage alumni and friends
  • Support special projects and events to engage donors
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Campaign 150 or major campaigns in a university setting
  • Five to seven years of development/fundraising experience
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Strong relationships with major donors, foundations, and corporations
  • Proficiency with Raiser's Edge or similar donor management systems
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team
