Requirements
- Ability to develop actionable insights. You can self-sufficiently conduct research, query data to ask and answer your own questions, visualize data in high signal-to-noise ways that make insights clear and compelling to executives, and create project structure and execution plans to drive swift action from those insights, while also mentoring growing more junior members of the team to eventually be able to do the same
- Structured “systems” thinker who also loves the details. When engaging with a problem, you balance a focus on quick wins and actionability with ways to help Pinterest efficiently solve that problem at scale through systems and repeatable processes, and are comfortable diving into the operational details with the analytical, data, product, and engineering teams that you will be closely partnered with to make it happen
- Entrepreneurial self-starter. You thrive in a fast-moving environment and are independently capable of seeking information, corralling resources, and delivering results without waiting for direction. You exhibit tenacity and patience to overcome any potential challenges to drive change. You lead with intellectual curiosity, take a deep interest in the technology landscape, and have a passion for understanding the fundamental drivers of business success and competitive advantage
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. You have the ability to distill complex ideas into simple, clear messages whether it's in a memo or a presentation. You can move seamlessly between conversing with product/engineering or ops teams and leading presentations with senior executives across the organization. You have a proven ability to influence without authority and build strong working relationships with business partners; this is a highly cross-functional role, so a low ego and a high instinct for collaboration are musts
Responsibilities
- Maintain a pulse on the broader landscape in which Pinterest operates. Help our executive team develop a sharper perspective on how Pinterest is positioned against incumbents, new entrants, potential competitors, and broader industry shifts in close partnership with our Corporate Development and Product teams. Utilize internal/external research and quant/qual approaches to bring a data-driven point of view on market trends to inform what we might need to be doing differently
- Explore new business opportunities. Frame and size new potential long-term growth opportunities for Pinterest. Develop business cases and recommendations that shape executive team conviction and decisions around new areas of investment, and help drive the “follow through” of those recommendations to ensure smooth execution with a diverse array of cross-functional partners
- Drive annual and quarterly strategic planning. Work with senior leaders to update their strategic priorities and goals on a regular basis, as well as update our executive team on progress against these strategic priorities. Design and coordinate strategic and operational planning processes across the enterprise to ensure maximum organizational alignment
- Help Scale the Team. Help build out processes for a small (but mighty) team while also scaling our influence across the organization
Desired Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in a variety of strategic, analytical and operational roles. You're a structured thinker who enjoys breaking down big, ambiguous problems into discrete hypotheses. You thrive on combining rigorous data-driven analysis, strong business and product intuition and judgment, and an ability to work well across a variety of teams to solve complex problems. You've likely had Strategy, Biz Ops, management consulting, investing, analytics, growth, and/or product management experience in a prior life. Ads-based consumer internet and/or eCommerce industry experience is a plus
