  • Holds a Master’s Degree in chemical engineering or a post-graduate Process Safety qualification.
  • Chartered status preferred.
  • Experience of working for engineering / client organisations in the oil and gas industry.
  • Exposure to consultancy, FEED / detailed design and Engineering, Procurement and Construction projects.
  • Knowledge of applicable international and industry specifications, standards and codes.
  • Knowledge of safety and quality procedures and best practice.
  • Experience of managing Risk Analysis (e.g. Quantified Risk Assessment, FERA, Event and Effect Review Analysis, Emergency Scenario Safety Analysis, Reliability, Availability and Maintainability studies, Flare/Vent Studies).
  • Hands-on experience running process safety software such as PHAST, Flaresim, RAM Maros etc.
  • Human Factors engineering design implementation experience.
  • Experience of UK safety case and Control of Major Accident Hazards requirements.
  • Experience of UK applicable Health and Safety Executive regulations.
  • Experience in development of bow tie and identification of Safety Critical Elements.
  • Excellent command of the English language in oral and written communication.
  • Good coordination, monitoring and supervisory skills.

Responsibilities
  • Technically responsible for an area of work and supervises preparation of specific deliverables.
  • Supervising and checking the work of other engineers as delegated by the lead engineer / group manager.
  • Undertakes specific tasks / area of work as defined by the lead / principal engineer for Process Safety.
  • Identifying and resolving discrepancies and divergences from original proposal / contract under the supervision of the lead / principal engineer.
  • Participates in factory acceptance tests.
  • Supports the preparation of the Process Safety Technical Document Register and executes allocated tasks within the requirements of the project execution plan and Technical Document Register.
  • Ensures compliance with Kent’s ISO accredited Quality Management System, and project specific procedures, guides and standards.
  • In consultation with Process group manager takes responsibility for identifying own development needs and ensuring that agreed development goals are met taking due cognisance of project commitments.
  • Responsible for personal training and development in consultation with Process group manager.
  • Performs related duties as and when instructed by lead / principal engineer or group manager.
  • Prepare/ review safety studies reports independently such as Quantified Risk Assessments, FERA, RAM etc.
  • Prepare and Review loss prevention deliverables such as fire protection philosophy, Hazard and Operability (HAC) schedule, Process Fire Prevention (PFP) schedule layouts, fire water demand calculations etc.
  • Additionally, perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management within the reasonable scope of skills and role.
