Requirements
  • A four-year college degree meeting the requirements of an athletic trainer is required.
  • The individual must obtain a license to practice in North Carolina from the North Carolina Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners.
  • National Board of Certification certification is required.
  • A license from the North Carolina Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners is required.
  • Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification is required.
Responsibilities
  • Room patients, collect histories, document first-pass history of present illness, chart, answer phone calls, complete forms, teach home exercise programs, and walk with patients using crutches.
  • Prepare clinics, obtain test results, update charts, verify insurance, obtain authorizations, and coordinate referrals and appointments.
  • Clean exam rooms and tables, order and stock supplies, restock exam rooms, check for expired supplies and medications, empty sharps containers, and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Promote patient rights, respond to emergency codes, and follow Human Resources, Compliance, and Joint Commission policies.
  • Perform duties allowed by state law, including autoclaving, checking vital signs, suture removal, dressing changes, entering orders under physician protocols, handling biohazard waste, and applying durable medical equipment to patients.
  • Develop the ability to remove casts and apply basic splints and casts to the upper and lower extremities as assigned by clinic leadership.
  • Accurately fit all durable medical equipment products used in the clinic.
  • Evaluate patients during their first postoperative visit when assigned; a physician or advanced practice provider must be present, and the athletic trainer's note must be cosigned by the physician or advanced practice provider.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by clinic leadership.
