Scope of Position
The Comprehensive Cancer Center- Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (the “James”) is committed to providing high quality cancer services in detection, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. The Business Operations Consultant, Perioperative (“Periop”) and Interventional Radiology (“IR”) departments (the “Departments”) of the James provides comprehensive oversight of the Department including decision support and implementation of strategic growth plans, operational, financial, facilities, outreach and other business activities across the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (“OSUMC”) system. The Business Operations Consultant provides leadership in developing and translating financial budget and operational benchmarks and metrics into action and achievement for the Department.
The Department encompasses all Periop (OR, ASU, PACU) and IR cost centers across the James. The Business Operations Consultant works with members of the faculty and staff to ensure provision of high-quality patient care while insuring the financial viability of the programs and the hospital. The Business Operations Consultant reports to the James Business Operations Manager.
Position Summary
The Business Operations Consultant serves as a dedicated business resource to guide and provide administrative direction and decision support for the Departments. The position is responsible for business analytics and oversight for the Departments, including:
- Fiscal management: budget development and performance, capital requests, Strata variance management reporting and on-going analysis;
- Operational metrics and dashboards;
- Position control management;
- Contract management: service letter agreements (SLAs) and memorandum of understandings (MOUs);
- Project/operational support;
- Facilities support;
- Audit coordination and compliance;
- Strategic planning; and
- All other administrative and operational management matters specific to the Departments.
The Business Operations Consultant identifies financial opportunities and issues, and implements improvements that will enhance Department operations and sustainability. The Business Operations Consultant develops, aligns, and operationalizes the Program’s clinical, academic, and research activities to support the overall James Cancer Program goals and to ensure the implementation of key OSUCCC-The James initiatives through interdisciplinary collaboration.
The Business Operations Consultant promotes an environment that facilitates patient and staff satisfaction and a culture that is conducive to team development and professional growth. The Business Operations Consultant develops and maintains effective working relationships with Department clinical and non-clinical staff, administrators, and the other members of the interdisciplinary Department and Business Operations teams. The Business Operations Consultant collaborates across OSUMC with other administrators, leaders and staff to provide fiscal and analytics oversight and expertise within Periop and IR across the health system. The Business Operations Consultant participates in professional organizations and workgroups to promote the image of the organization externally.
Minimum Qualifications
For Hire: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school required. Graduate degree in business or health care administration preferred; professional certification preferred. Record of demonstrated leadership experience and skills and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in business and/or finance roles required. 8-12 years of relevant experience preferred.
Ongoing: Maintain licensure (if applicable). Demonstrated competency to meet essential job functions. Ongoing participation in professional organizations that provide continuing educational opportunities and promote professional advancement. Demonstrated ability to function as an interdisciplinary team member who actively contributes to the effective planning, coordination, and implementation of healthcare services to meet the oncology needs of the patients, families and community served.
