  • The candidate must have a bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • The candidate must have five years of experience in public relations, journalism, television, corporate communications, or agency work.
  • The candidate must have demonstrated experience developing communications for a range of media and working with creative professionals in design, photography, or video.
  • The candidate must be able to develop and execute a multi-year strategic communications plan covering multiple content areas, audiences, and forms of media.
  • The candidate must have exceptional written and verbal communication skills and be able to convey complex information to diverse audiences.
  • The candidate must have strong media relations expertise, including managing inquiries, building relationships, and crafting effective press materials.
  • The candidate must have demonstrated experience developing communications and working under pressure in fast-paced environments.
  • The candidate must be familiar with social media platforms and digital communication tools.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy for the Office of New Haven Affairs and University Properties.
  • Serve as the primary communications liaison for engagement between Yale University and the New Haven community.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for media inquiries related to public safety incidents and policies.
  • Design and implement communications campaigns for community outreach initiatives, including programming through The Shops at Yale, New Haven Public Schools programs, and work with New Haven nonprofit organizations.
  • Oversee the department's digital presence and social media platforms, monitor digital channels, assess public sentiment, and address concerns promptly.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to communicate initiatives at the intersection of the University and City.
  • Track and evaluate communication strategies using engagement, media coverage, and campus community feedback, and revise communication plans based on lessons learned and emerging best practices.
  • Manage relationships with external media sources and respond to inquiries from national and international news media, student media, the University community, and the general public.
  • Prepare key stakeholders for media interviews and manage campus stakeholder relationships.
  • Create story ideas and narratives; produce content for external and internal channels; write copy and social media posts; and manage content.
  • Plan social media strategies for University communications and programs and monitor University social media assets for negative comments or misinformation.
  • Support short- and long-term communication planning, coordinate with communications professionals, and lead the communications process within established standards and protocols.
  • Support response strategies in crisis situations and articulate the University's position through interviews or written responses.
  • Produce multimedia content and manage the work of graphic and web designers, student interns, printers, video producers, and photographers.
  • Manage communication plans for stakeholders by translating the significance of campus initiatives and academic work into clear and accessible messages.
  • Develop and maintain regular contact with media representatives across multiple disciplines.
  • Maintain Yale brand and graphic identity standards, support standard operating procedures, and contribute to digital asset management.
