Fox TV StationsFOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. These stations leverage viewer, distributor and advertiser demand for the FOX Network’s national content.

WTTG/WDCA – News Writer/Producer (Regular Full-Time)

You must be passionate about local news and delivering exceptional television broadcast, digital, and streaming programming to the market. The ideal candidates will have an ingenious approach to showcasing content and pitching story ideas across multiple platforms that make an impact online, offline, and in person. JOB HIGHLIGHTS

• Fully contributing member of the newsroom who will evaluate, edit, and organize stories, coordinating with reporters/anchors.

• Produce engaging relevant newscasts that meet the highest journalistic standards.

• Send breaking news push alerts, write digital stories, live stream.

• Edit photos, graphics, and videos.

• Daily collaboration with directors, anchors/reporters, editors, managers, and other staff members.

• Think critically under pressure and work professionally on individual assignments and as part of a cohesive team. 

• Participate in editorial, department, and station meetings.

• Other duties as assigned. 

WHAT YOU ARE BRINGING

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field.

• Minimum three years of newsroom experience, preferably as a newscast producer.

• Minimum two years of experience in a mid to major television market.

• Exceptional written, verbal, copy editing, and broadcast production skills.

• Solid news judgment.

• Excellent storyteller.

• Experience in publishing content on digital and social platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.

• Creative, detail-oriented, and ability to find new ways to present information.

• Ability to take direction and work under deadline pressure. Consistently display a professional demeanor with the ability to stay cool under pressure and handle strong personalities.

• Must be able and willing to work independently and as part of a cohesive team.

Candidates must provide writing samples and reel/link of recent production work.

FOX 5 DC / FOX 5 Plus is a 24/7 operation. Candidates must have flexibility in scheduling evenings, early mornings, weekends as well as work all shifts in a 24/7/365 breaking news environment. Must be able to work overtime, holidays, and varied hours. Candidate will also be required to join the SAG-AFTRA Washington-Mid Atlantic Local union for the off-air news unit.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $32.50-40.00 per hour for high cost labour markets such as but not limited to New York City and Los Angeles, $27.00-33.25 per hour for all other US locations. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
