Requirements
  • Graduate from an RN School of Nursing.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Have computer skills.
  • Hold a current California Registered Nurse license.
  • Hold current Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support cards.
  • Hold current Management of Assaultive Behavior certification.
  • Obtain National Institutes of Health certification within 90 days of hire.
Responsibilities
  • Assess patient and family health problems and resources, and take a leadership role in developing, implementing, and evaluating nursing care plans provided by the nursing team.
  • Provide technical nursing care and interventions to designated patient populations ranging from ill neonates through geriatric patients, demonstrating understanding of functional and developmental age.
  • Coordinate admissions, make nursing assignments, coordinate shift activities, and perform quality-control functions.
  • Provide local wound care as ordered.
  • Apply dressings as ordered or as appropriate to the type of wound.
  • Document nursing interventions using the FOCUS charting format.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of procedures and post-care.
  • Follow established protocols for patients at high risk for suicide or unpredictable behavior.
  • Follow established protocols for patients at high risk for falls and skin breakdown.
  • Follow appropriate Code Blue notification procedures.
  • Function in a Code Blue by providing CPR and accurately administering and documenting medications and interventions.
  • Prioritize clinical interventions and care effectively.
  • Communicate significant changes in a patient's condition or status in a timely manner.
  • Understand the actions, side effects, and contraindications of drugs.
  • Follow the five rights of medication administration.
  • Adhere to medication policies, practices, and standards.
  • Administer medication, intravenous therapy, and fluid management only on physician request and guidance.
  • Obtain necessary training before initial equipment use.
  • Ensure equipment is in operating order before use.
  • Differentiate between patient complications and equipment malfunction.
  • Use IV pumps, Glucoscans, PCA pumps, tube feeding pumps, chest tube suction equipment, and defibrillators according to manufacturer operating instructions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
