HOW YOU WILL DO IT
Purpose Statement: To support Flawless Execution and Customer Service Excellence by providing capability, support and execution of tooling services in support of Plexus Engineering and Manufacturing Solutions. Specifically, the Tooling engineer will oversee tool build, tool trials, tool qualifications and provide plans and status updates on these projects.
Key Job Accountabilities:
- Tooling Strategy Execution - Execute all aspects of tooling strategy that supports Plexus Engineering and Manufacturing Solutions. To include preferred manufacturers, terms, project management, cost, productivity and tooling lifecycle.
- Customer Service Excellence - Understand and interpret all external and internal tooling requirements. Provide tooling solutions across all facets of Plexus’ Value Chain to include all external and potentially internal manufacturing processes (casting, metal fabrication and stamping, injection, reaction, structural and multi-shot molding, PCB, over-molding etc.).
- Supplier Project Management - Manage tooling suppliers to ensure on-time delivery of tooling. Ensure all aspects of the tool creation process, including the design, construction, trials, qualification and maintenance plans, meet specifications.
- Support localization and transition projects by managing all aspects of tool transfer and tool requalification.
- Productivity - Contribute to materials margin by continuous improvement of yields and cycle time to reduce manufacturing costs and meet PPV targets.
Additional Accountabilities:
- Work closely with the Supply Chain Solutions, Supply Chain Productivity Manager, Engineering Solutions Managers and/or Regional Supply Chain Team to ensure Customer Tooling Pricing (QC) is in line with customer expectations.
- Contribute to CEC Commodity Council with preferred tooling manufacturers and service providers.
- Collaborate closely with Commodity Managers on all aspects of supplier interface and especially on the critical interface between tooling and manufacturing strategies.
- Influence with the ability to communicate and sell tooling strategy to internal and external customers.
- Communicate and interface with suppliers to ensure on-time completion of tooling suppliers’ commitments and deliverables.
- Problem solving -anticipate and resolve tooling issues that place on-time delivery of prototypes, production launch or sustaining production at risk.
- Serve as the tooling Subject Matter Expert through understanding and interpreting all internal and external customer tooling requirements.
- Occasional travel may be required to meet the needs of the business (estimated 20-30%).
- Additional duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required.
- Two (2) year of related experience is required; Five (5) or more years of related experience is preferred.
- Experience and track record of managing tooling in mechanical processing industries is essential.
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the key job accountabilities may be considered.
Other Qualifications:
- Advanced decision making and problem solving skills, especially in an environment of complexity, ambiguity and compressed timescales.
- Ability to influence others, within Plexus Corp. at suppliers and customers with sound reasoning and cognitive argument.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in a team environment, and have the ability to follow through on assignments with little to no supervision.
- Working knowledge of MS Office, including advanced computer skills in MS Excel and MS PowerPoint. Proficiency in Engineering Software such as Agile, 3D CAD is required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, quantitative analysis ability, attention to detail, time management skills, and organizational skills.
- Effective presentation skills and the ability to represent Plexus Corp.to suppliers and customers in a professional manner.
- Ability to lead effectively within a matrix organization and at supplier premises without formal authority.
- The successful candidate must be capable of working in manufacturing environments where variations in noise, temperature, lighting can be factors and where heavy machinery, lifting equipment and overhead cranes are all commonplace.
- General office equipment and materials.
Work Environment:
- The work setting should consist of an office environment with suitable lighting, comfortable temperatures, and a low noise level.

The salary offered within this range will be based upon the geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level. Benefits offered for this position include health care; retirement benefits; paid days off, including sick time, and vacation time; parental leave; volunteer time, basic life insurance; Flexible Spending Accounts or Health Savings Accounts; and may be eligible for discretionary performance-based bonuses. Salary Range:$66,700.00 - $100,100.00
