Requirements
  • Master of Science or Arts Degree in Communication Disorders from an accredited Speech-Language Pathology program with American Speech-Language-Hearing Association certification (ESB)
  • License in Speech-Language Pathology in good standing for the State of Michigan
  • Must hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association or be in Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY); if in CFY, have 2 years from hire date to complete the CCC
  • Updated National Provider Identifier (NPI) number and social security number required for payer enrollment; Bronson will assist with enrollment
  • Board or professional credentialing requirements: supervise CFYs and ASHA CCC eligibility where applicable
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 3 months after hire
  • Keyboarding skills to operate a computer/mobile device
  • Some work locations require a background check and fingerprinting
  • Some work locations require weekend and/or holiday rotation
  • Must work as a team member and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and all members of the care delivery team
  • Social sensitivity and ability to communicate in English effectively
Responsibilities
  • Interdisciplinary discussion and rounds
  • Interpretation and implementation of referrals; evaluate patient functional status and therapeutic needs through standardized assessment and testing; establish functional baseline to gauge progress and functional independence
  • Establish education and treatment planning
  • Evaluate and treat speech, language, cognitive, communication and swallowing disorders
  • Diagnostic and treatment practices individualized to the patient’s needs including age, development, cognitive ability, learning style, cultural and language background, impairments, activity limitations, participation restrictions, environment, and family/caregiver/spouse
  • Screen for hearing issues as part of the evaluation
  • Provide in-services in areas of expertise for the Bronson Rehabilitation System
  • Direct patient care according to the treatment plan; instruct patients in skills for participation
  • Program development and participation in department process improvement
  • Serve as a resource person in areas of expertise
  • Possibly cross-train and provide coverage at other departments within Rehabilitation Services as needed
  • Patient and family education
  • Patient care goal setting and establishing duration of therapy through the plan of care
  • May perform video swallow studies if site allows

  • CFY transition time clarity may be preferred by some locations
