PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Responsible for providing facility services support through the coordination and performance or diverse activities related to facility services and building maintenance. Works with outside contractors on building and equipment repairs.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situation or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
- Maintain and improve the building including but not limited to; HVAC, life safety system, restroom fixtures, walls, floors and doors.
- Developing professional expertise; applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of Facility and Building issues.
- Operate site equipment as needed, using hand and power tools as necessary.
- Maintain manufacturing and laboratory support systems including: compressed air, vacuum, water filtration, drain lines, emergency power (i.e. UPS and generators).
- Qualify and hire sub-contractors to perform work that cannot be performed by facilities staff.
- Prioritize and coordinate work of subcontractors, ensuring vendors or sub-contractors are complying with service agreements/contracts on building systems.
- Develop facility systems operating protocols.
- Perform daily facility inspections, manage and coordinate work requests.
- Provide back-up oversight to janitorial functions and staff including the comprehensive recycling program.
- Prepare and submit periodic compliance reports with the county sanitation district and other reporting as required.
- Coordinate and schedule non-emergency work activities in collaboration with department managers and supervisors.
- Represent the Facilities Department by participating in Safety Committee Meetings.
- May refer to senior level staff for assistance with higher level problems that may arise.
- Escalates issues to supervisor/manager for resolution, as deemed necessary.
- Assist with various projects as assigned by direct supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree required
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
- 2 – 5 years’ related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent directly related work experience.
- Ability to work with computer applications to control work order / preventive maintenance programs.
- Working knowledge of building codes and fire codes affecting the site.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
