Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering is required.
  • At least 5 years of traffic experience is required.
  • A Professional Engineer registration, progress toward licensure, or the ability to obtain licensure by reciprocity in Massachusetts within one year is required.
  • Expertise in Synchro software is required.
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts Department of Transportation traffic study requirements and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation design process is desirable.
  • Experience using SIDRA and PTV Vissim is desirable.
  • A valid driver’s license with a good driving history is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide technical supervision for complex projects and ensure work quality and compliance with contractual scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Oversee or prepare traffic studies, including traffic analyses and models, for a variety of projects.
  • Develop traffic solutions by applying engineering knowledge and skills.
  • Oversee or prepare traffic signal design plans and special provisions.
  • Oversee or prepare traffic sign, pavement marking, and traffic management plans.
  • Maintain positive relationships with clients.
  • Participate in developing technical approaches for proposals.
  • Assist Project Managers with planning, coordinating, and executing large and small projects; developing and executing project scopes of work; monitoring schedules and budgets; reporting progress; identifying work outside the contractual scope; and developing technical approaches, schedules, and fee estimates for complex proposals.
  • Prepare technical memoranda, reports, proposals, contracts, and subcontract scopes of work.
  • Perform traffic peer reviews of private development projects, prepare written findings, and present findings to municipal boards.
  • Supervise and train less experienced staff by providing daily guidance and reviewing their work and progress.
  • Manage a direct report and workload, approve timesheets and expense reports, and guide career path development.
  • Maintain departmental quality control by reviewing project designs, calculations, and assumptions.
  • Prepare and deliver oral presentations to the public, municipal boards, clients, external associations, and professional conferences.
