Job Description:
This position provides technical subject matter expertise to Intermountain Healthcare facilities maintenance teams as part of Intermountain healthcare’s ongoing efforts to improve facility maintenance and operations in its physical plants system wide. This role provides energy, mechanical, electrical, building automation and controls expertise on new construction and existing buildings. This position interfaces with internal and external partners as a representative of the Intermountain Healthcare Energy Management Department.
This is a system-wide role, assigned to work on technical projects throughout the Intermountain system. This role works closely with the Facility Management and the Facility Design and Construction Departments to influence design, construction, commissioning, recommissioning, operations, and maintenance to improve performance and reduce costs in facilities system wide. This position reports to an engineer, manager, or director of the Energy Management Department.
Essential Functions
- Manages the administrative activities of the Intermountain Healthcare building automation systems.
- Collaborates with external controls contractors to ensure jobs are being completed to sustain and promote Intermountain’s strict standards for energy performance. Provides ongoing feedback to both external contractors and internal Facility Maintenance teams, Energy Engineer project leads or Manager.
- Manages projects as related to the function of building automation systems operations. Troubleshoot and improve existing automation control sequences.
- Assists more senior energy team members in the implementation of projects. Participates in equipment start-ups, commissioning, and recommissioning of mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- Collaborates with design engineers, project managers, and commissioning agents to implement projects, strategies, and promote energy optimization measures.
- Teaches and trains facility management staff and leaders the principles of building automation, energy conservation and management, and the effect of proper maintenance procedures on energy consumption and equipment life.
- Supports Facility Design and Construction and Facility Management by ensuring adherence to standards and guidelines, reviewing design documents from consulting design teams, and participating in commissioning and recommissioning of facility equipment.
- Stays abreast of best practices, new technologies, market dynamics, and trends, and acts as a subject matter expert and resource to others, advising on best practices and process improvement.

Qualifications
- Minimum
- Completion of trade school and two years of experience.
- or – - Five years of experience in building automation, facility management, energy management, or construction
- Demonstrated ability to read and understand mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and architectural drawings and plans.
- Demonstrated thorough knowledge of HVAC systems and equipment, including but not limited to: boilers, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, air handling equipment, and other terminal HVAC devices.
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly the ability to summarize complex, technical issues on a need to know basis for decision makers.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities with many internal customers.
- Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and e-mail, and scheduling applications.
- Willingness and availability to travel throughout the Intermountain system as needed.
- Preferred
- Experience troubleshooting and programming building automation control sequences
- Experience with data trending and fault detection and diagnostics analytic platforms
- Certification on Siemens, Johnson Controls, or Tridium building automation systems.
- Certification in building commissioning
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, electronic equipment and instrumentation and controls systems
- Experience in healthcare facility construction or operations and maintenance.
- EPA Refrigeration Certification
Physical Requirements
- Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time, climb stairs and ladders, occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
- Frequent interactions with customers that require employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
$36.34 - $55.30
