Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED and a minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A pre-employment physical examination is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required, and the employee must be insurable by the University's insurance carrier.
  • The employee must be physically present in the workplace and must report to or remain at work during university emergencies or closures.
  • The employee may be required to work variable shifts during the heating season.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Plant Operator in operating, monitoring, and maintaining oil- and gas-fired boilers, centrifugal refrigeration equipment, and the underground tunnel system for steam and chilled water distribution.
  • Maintain and repair steam plant equipment to support safe, reliable, and efficient steam production and reduce plant downtime and steam or water leakage.
  • Maintain steam distribution systems and ensure a safe, efficient supply of steam and chilled water to campus through the tunnel system.
  • Keep accurate inspection records for the tunnel system and reduce steam or water leakage in the distribution system.
  • Operate chillers safely and efficiently, maintain operating logs and chilled water operating systems, perform chemical tests, and inject water-treatment chemicals as directed.
  • Adjust chilled water operating equipment as needed to support safe and efficient chilled water production.
  • Clean and maintain strainers, cooling towers, and tubes.
  • Perform boiler and chiller water chemical treatment.
  • Complete required paperwork, collect data for steam and chilled water logs, and update inspection records.
