Requirements
  • Must have successfully completed a Graduate Level, accredited Physician Assistant Program approved by AMA Board of Approval and Certification of Physician Assistant programs.
  • Must have bachelor’s degree or equivalent (BS/MS joint programs are also acceptable).
  • NCCPA certification.
  • License as a Physician Assistant in Massachusetts.
  • Maintain current DEA and Massachusetts Controlled Substances Licenses.
  • Maintain current BLS/ACLS certification.
  • Complete 100 hours of continuing medical education according to national and state regulations during each 2-year period of employment.
  • Complete BWH Professionalism Program within 3 months of date of hire.
Responsibilities
  • Performs patient admitting histories and physicals; records information accurately in patient record in a timely fashion.
  • Performs bedside procedures, e.g.: insertion of lines and tubes; performs postoperative wound care and removal of tubes, lines, sutures, etc.
  • Examines and evaluates patients and assists in development of their treatment plan with attending intensivists.
  • Appropriately responds to emergency situations; manages patient issues as they arise in the ICU, to the extent that the PA will obtain and evaluate studies/labs, write orders, obtain consultations and interpret lab values and x-rays with the assistance of the supervising physicians as necessary.
  • Provides age specific care to medical/surgical intensive care patients from early adolescence through the geriatric ages.
  • Will work under the direction of supervising critical care attendings.
  • Provides teaching to medical students and physician assistant students and other health care personnel as appropriate.
  • Stays up to date on the latest literature in surgical critical care practice.
  • Participates in quality improvement, patient safety, and research efforts as directed by the service leadership. The PA should also initiate these efforts as appropriate.

MGB Home Care clinicians to picket Mass General over stalled contract talks after year of bargaining

Approximately 450 clinicians at Mass General Brigham Home Care, represented by the Massachusetts Nurses Association, will hold an informational picket on 24 March outside Massachusetts General Hospital. The clinicians are seeking their first union contract after more than 20 bargaining sessions since March 2025. The bargaining unit includes registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech language pathologists, social workers and dieticians who voted to join the MNA in June 2024. They are demanding reasonable caseload limits, clear productivity standards, competitive wages and recruitment protections. MGB reported a $59.2 million operating gain in the year ending September 2025, with CEO Dr Anne Klibanski's compensation rising 40% to $8.4 million in 2024. The picket is scheduled for 15:30 to 17:00 and is not a strike.
