Requirements
  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
  • The ability to successfully complete competency requirements for math, English, writing, spelling, and reading comprehension is required.
  • The ability to perform basic math skills is required.
  • The ability to perform reading, writing, spelling, English, and communication skills at the ninth-grade level is required.
  • The ability to input and read data using department computers is required.
  • The ability to perform duties within assigned cluster units is required.
  • The ability to communicate factual information effectively orally and in writing with members of the healthcare team is required.
  • The ability to accept delegation and negotiate task priorities is required.
  • The ability to stand and walk frequently, lift lightweight objects of 20 pounds or less, and assist with heavier tasks such as lifting and moving patients is required.
Responsibilities
  • Clean hospital units, patient rooms, restrooms, floors, and other assigned areas.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly environment for patients, staff, families, and visitors.
  • Change bed linens, run errands, and direct visitors.
  • Restock unit work areas and retrieve and deliver supplies and equipment.
  • Record food and fluid intake and output as directed.
  • Answer pages to assist nursing staff.
  • Answer signal lights, bells, or the intercom system to determine patient needs and communicate information to the registered nurse or patient care assistant.
  • Perform monthly cleaning, including high dusting, baseboards, and spot cleaning of walls when assigned.
  • Serve and collect food trays and feed patients who require assistance.
  • Transport patients and assist patients to walk as directed by the registered nurse.
  • Assist in turning and repositioning bedfast patients to help prevent bedsores.
  • Compile chart packets according to established procedures.
  • Coordinate cleaning activities with the registered nurse and patient care assistant.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and keep current with pertinent unit or department information.
  • Use department computerized systems to input appropriate data.
  • Answer the unit phone according to Bronson telephone standards.
  • Assist the greeter and unit clerk as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • One to three months of related experience and/or training is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is preferred.
  • A Michigan driver's license and insurability may be required for BBC assignments.
