Requirements
  • Successful leadership in human resources and knowledge of state and federal labor laws and employment provisions are required.
  • The candidate must be able to lead effectively in a multi-layered organization and build relationships with teachers, coaches, school leaders, and home office and school-based colleagues.
  • The candidate must have strong conceptual, analytical, and organizational or systems-thinking abilities to interpret data, inform goals and strategy development, and lead implementation and execution.
  • The candidate must have a proven record of effective leadership, the ability to navigate complex issues, and the ability to drive organizational change.
  • The candidate must have strong people-management skills with a successful track record of leading teams to excellent outcomes.
  • The candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey information to large groups, staff meetings, executive briefings, and memos.
  • The candidate must be able to work effectively in emotionally charged, difficult situations involving confidential or sensitive matters.
  • The candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Google-based applications.
  • The candidate must have at least five years of relevant, progressive professional work experience in a public school district, public administration, charter school or education management organization, or university, including at least three years of supervisory experience and verified experience in human resources, employee or labor relations, supervision of schools, or equivalent experience.
  • The candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in human resources, education, public administration or policy, or a related field.
  • All team members must complete a LiveScan background check and TB clearance.
Responsibilities
  • Lead from a compelling multi-year vision and data-informed position that delivers quality improvements for staff through strategic changes across talent, including human resources systems, talent policies and practices, enhanced benefits, and management skills.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor and functional expert to the Chief People Officer, Talent Leadership Team, and organizational leaders regarding talent strategy, initiatives, and issues across the staff life cycle from entry to exit.
  • Ensure compliance with employment law and lead necessary changes to maintain ongoing compliance, including updating the employee handbook, training staff and supervisors, and partnering with internal and external counsel.
  • Implement and ensure strong system execution that provides accurate data, strong employee services, and high-quality coordination and partnership with other talent functions and school leaders.
  • Design and implement systems-level protocols so that HR Operations provides an exceptional staff experience while aligning with Alliance policies, individual school charters, and state and federal labor laws, with consistent, fair, and equitable application of policies and procedures.
  • Build and maintain a strong team of HR Operations functional leaders and support staff through recruiting, training, coaching, motivating, team building, and succession planning.
  • Model and facilitate culture practices and customer service standards that deliver high-quality HR Operations support to schools and Home Office teams.
  • Manage the professional growth of direct reports to build a strong HR leadership bench.
  • Review team members' work and provide ongoing, timely, relevant, and constructive feedback to HR Operations functional leads and key cross-departmental leaders.
  • Provide financial stewardship of and directly inform development of the HR Operations team budget, including return-on-investment analysis and participation in Talent budgeting processes.
  • Establish key performance indicators and other effectiveness indicators to monitor progress for HR Operations functions, including compliance, staff-experience operations, and benefits administration.
  • Facilitate cross-functional cooperation and identify and address strategic opportunities and challenges supporting HR and talent strategy, initiatives, and organizational priorities.
  • Guide the HR Operations department in developing operational and work plans with clear, measurable goals aligned with the larger HR and talent strategy, initiatives, and organizational priorities.
  • Collaborate with the Talent Leadership Team, Instructional Superintendents, and school site leaders to ensure cross-functional implementation of HR strategy.
  • Establish relationships and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders and partners, including vendors, school and Home Office leaders, local school boards, and community-based organizations.
  • Represent Alliance on HR-related matters and develop relationships as needed to further Alliance's overall HR strategy, initiatives, and priorities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Deep knowledge of urban public schools and school culture.
  • Senior Professional in Human Resources certification or SHRM Certified Professional certification.
