Requirements
- Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current New York State licensure as a Certified Radiologic Technologist is required upon hire.
- ARRT Radiography Certification with continuing education credits is required upon hire.
Responsibilities
- Set up and utilize all MRI equipment, including imaging coils, patient monitoring systems, and related articles.
- Evaluate image quality by troubleshooting scanner or coil problems and scan parameters.
- Identify and compensate for imaging artifacts.
- Review MRI registration and screening forms thoroughly to confirm safe access into the magnet room.
- Assist in training new MRI technologists and students.
- Perform filming, archiving, and PACS network data management for each patient scanned.
- Retrieve old MRI data for restoration and filming or networking.
- Learn new techniques with each subsequent scanner upgrade.
- Communicate pertinent patient information to necessary staff.
- Scan patients safely and efficiently, complete associated paper and computer work, and discharge patients from the MRI department with appropriate post-MRI instructions.
- Identify patient service requirements and educate patients and families regarding the procedure or treatment to be performed.
- Prepare patients for radiological and MRI procedures by positioning patients, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into specified positions, and adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.
- Perform procedures by following and verifying referring provider orders.
- Apply learned methodologies according to established policies and procedures.
- Produce high-quality images and prepare and present them, with other pertinent patient information, for timely interpretation.
- Prepare and maintain accurate documentation.
- Maintain production and quality of MRI images by following established standards, orders, protocols, and procedures.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors by adhering to MRI safety policies specific to MRI Zones.
- Perform and evaluate equipment quality control measurements.
- Troubleshoot equipment and notify appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.
- Train new employees or lead day-to-day work activities when assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
