Requirements
  • A college or university degree in a related field is required.
  • Two to five years of work experience in a related job discipline is required.
  • Establish conceptual designs for stratospheric deployment aircraft using conventional technologies from established original equipment manufacturers.
  • Evaluate new-build deployment aircraft with novel engine technologies, including hybrid electric systems, propeller-driven turboshaft engines, and reciprocating engines turbocharged by multistage compressors.
  • Conduct techno-economic analyses and evaluate cost estimates for stratospheric aerosol injection experiment scenarios, including aerosol production, delivery systems, and flight operations.
  • Design and evaluate aerosol dispersal technology.
  • Manage engineering, procurement, and construction and aerospace firm design subcontracts.
  • Support writing white papers and peer-reviewed publications by synthesizing pre-existing reports and available information on carbon-neutral quicklime production and other relevant topics.
  • Conduct techno-economic analyses and evaluate cost estimates for end-to-end large-scale ocean alkalinity enhancement deployments, including slaked-lime dispersal from calcination, associated carbon dioxide storage, and material distribution.
  • Design and evaluate processes and technologies for alkalinizing material dispersal in open-ocean settings.
  • Assist in designing laboratory experiments that test engineering hypotheses and manage subcontracts with engineering, procurement, and construction firms and consultants.
  • Plan resources effectively to deliver projects on time, to standard, and to budget.
  • Research, design, and evaluate mechanical processes and machinery with a moderate level of guidance.
  • Perform development activities including drawing-board layout and interpretation and implementation of project specifications and documentation requirements.
  • Conduct engineering studies and assign work to technical staff.

Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical, chemical, aerospace, or a related engineering field is preferred.
  • Industry experience in aerospace, automotive, petrochemical, energy, or a related industry is preferred.
  • Extensive experience interfacing with original equipment manufacturers, engineering, procurement, and construction firms, subcontractors, and suppliers is preferred.
  • Background managing technical risks and uncertainties in early-stage systems design and conducting feasibility assessments across technical and cost dimensions is preferred.
  • Proficiency in techno-economic analysis methodology, including cost estimation, system-level trade-offs, and sensitivity analysis, is preferred.
  • Experience leading or contributing to subcontract management with engineering firms, original equipment manufacturers, and aerospace contractors is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills for translating between academic researchers, industry partners, and project leadership on technical matters are preferred.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion is preferred.
  • Ability to think strategically and translate strategy into operational objectives is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are preferred.
  • Ability to work closely with senior University officials is preferred.
