Requirements
  • Five years of mechanical maintenance experience in the fabrication, installation, or repair of large heavy-duty industrial mechanical equipment, deep well turbine pumps, submersible pumps, or centrifugal booster pumps; alternatively, three years of experience with Pima County as a Wastewater Maintenance Specialist II performing related mechanical maintenance work.
  • Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.
  • A valid driver license is required at the time of application, and a valid Arizona driver license is required at the time of appointment.
  • The applicant must pass a 39-month Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Record review and meet applicable driving-record requirements.
  • The applicant must complete required pre-employment background checks, including verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history.
  • The position requires a post-offer physical examination and/or drug screen.
  • The applicant must be able to perform the stated physical duties, including frequently lifting, pushing, or pulling objects weighing up to 100 pounds and occasionally moving equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • The applicant must work safely around loud noise, moving mechanical parts, mechanical oils, vibration, electrical-shock risks, hazardous chemicals, extreme heat, confined spaces, and uneven or slippery surfaces.
Responsibilities
  • Perform operational and preventive maintenance on complex heavy-duty industrial equipment and machinery using hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including pneumatic tanks, deep wells, air compressors, pneumatic actuators, wet wells, pumps, and booster stations.
  • Fabricate, construct, install, repair, and align heavy-duty industrial equipment and machinery, including deep well pumps, water pumps, piping systems, centrifugal pumps, bearings on pumps and motors, using gas and electric welding.
  • Perform critical repairs to complex systems, equipment, and related features to maintain system integrity and function in accordance with applicable standards, rules, regulations, permits, and licenses.
  • Interpret and apply required codes and standards to work situations.
  • Interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and diagrams to facilitate work.
  • Prepare working sketches, drawings, and estimates of resources required for assigned projects.
  • Repair or operate specialized equipment such as submersible pumps, speed increasers and reducers, blowers, conveyors, gearboxes, mixing equipment, and industrial stationary engines.
  • Use precision measuring equipment such as micrometers and dial indicators.
  • Coordinate equipment and system modifications or maintenance with operations and maintenance staff, facility managers, and end users to minimize service disruption.
  • Inspect, service, and maintain common and specialized tools, equipment, and vehicles used in the work.
  • Use and ensure fellow staff use standard occupational safety practices and equipment.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of work performed, equipment or system modifications, and related operations logs.
  • Prepare periodic and special reports for management on supported or maintained equipment, systems, and facilities.
  • Conduct on-the-job training for operators and maintenance staff.
  • Inspect and lead the work of equipment operators and maintenance staff when assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least six years of experience maintaining and repairing industrial mechanical equipment and pumping systems, including deep well turbine pumps, positive displacement pumps, submersible pumps, centrifugal pumps, booster pumps, gearboxes, plumbing, pipe fitting, and compressors or blowers.
  • At least four years of experience in specialized and advanced maintenance, repair, diagnosis, troubleshooting, construction, fabrication, on-the-job training, and preventive maintenance.
  • At least four years of experience using an industrial Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • At least four years of experience using Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Visio.
