Requirements
  • 5+ years relevant experience
  • A data scientist who is also into data journalism
  • Experienced SQL skills, ideally Google BigQuery, and Python skills
  • Sophisticated Excel skills
  • Fluent in English; additional other European languages a definite advantage
  • An ability to tell signal from noise in the data, and answer the 'so what?' question behind the observed numbers and patterns
  • Able to demonstrate journalism, editorial or other written work as a hobby, past or side project
  • Proficient in narrative, storytelling, and communications channels
  • Passionate about music, audio and technology, and how it impacts people's lives
  • Motivated independent worker with a hands-on demeanour who can prioritise
  • Collaborative individual who enjoys partnering closely across teams and departments
  • Comfortable working as part of a distributed team across all continents
Responsibilities
  • Perform data analysis using SQL (in Google BigQuery / Google Cloud Platform), Google Sheets / Microsoft Excel, and Python
  • Work on several data projects at any one time, extracting insights in the context of editorial, data storytelling
  • Visualise data effectively, producing accurate, robust and easy-to-understand data sets
  • Work in a complex and fast paced environment without sacrificing attention to detail
  • Develop Comms data dashboards to support self-service data storytelling
  • Take an interest in surveying the latest trends on platform
  • Help craft our research agenda
  • Help the Comms Team ask the right questions, and translate them into data projects
  • Directly report to Spotify's Head of Communications for Continental Europe and UK/Ireland, who is based in London
  • Support the rest of the data team within the Global Comms team as needed
  • Advocate for data-driven culture and ways of working
