  • Comprehensive knowledge of Optical Design preferably for space applications with a working knowledge of other engineering disciplines e.g. electronics, opto-mechanics, image processing and electro-optical device physics
  • Ability to prioritise and support multiple optical design issues in parallel
  • The candidate should have basic opto-mechanical knowledge
  • Ability to review designs and plans from subcontractors
  • Experience of engineering lifecycle management and requirements management
  • Knowledge in materials and component selection, in the space domain
  • BSc in Optics, Physics or engineering ideally with proven related practical optical design experience
  • Optical design experience with high proficiency in Optic Studio (Zemax) is essential
  • Design and analysis software knowledge, e.g.SolidWorks, Ansys, SigFit, Python is desirable
  • Good knowledge of MS Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Project
  • Knowledge of Quality Management requirements
Responsibilities
  • Review and feedback on optical design and analysis and documentation, balancing technical requirements with programmatic and budget constraints
  • Proactively provide support to project teams on the optical design, analysis and build throughout the project lifecycle
  • Work with subcontractors, customers, and suppliers to deliver an optical design solution and analysis that meets the project requirements from concept through to manufacture, system integration and verification
  • Advise on risk, programmatic and budgetary issues with respect to proposed designs
  • Training and mentorship of other team members on optical design, analysis, and technology
  • Support and contribute to the preparation of bid and proposal material
