Requirements
  • A high school diploma or the equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills with children and adults.

  • A commitment to supporting scholars' physical, social, and emotional growth.
  • A commitment to working in systemically underserved communities in Los Angeles and supporting Alliance's anti-racist, pro-Black, scholar-centered mission.
  • All team members must complete a LiveScan background check and TB clearance.
Responsibilities
  • Coach and instruct scholars in volleyball, including proper equipment use and the rules of the sport.
  • Supervise scholar-athletes in locker rooms, practices, competitions, buses, travel, and other athletic-related activities.
  • Maintain proper inventory and care of athletic equipment and facilities.
  • Assess scholar performance and make coaching decisions without regard to outside teen or youth affiliations.
  • Implement safety protocols, injury prevention practices, and emergency procedures in alignment with school and league requirements.
  • Monitor scholar behavior and enforce team and school expectations.
  • Plan and lead practices and competitions that support skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
  • Maintain attendance, eligibility, and required documentation as directed by the Athletic Director.
  • Communicate with the Athletic Director regarding schedules, scholar needs, and program logistics.
  • Coordinate with officials, transportation providers, and league partners as needed.
  • Communicate with parents and guardians regarding practice schedules, game details, attendance expectations, and scholar-athlete participation.
  • Serve as a point of contact for families to support clear communication, transparency, and scholar safety.
  • Coordinate with the Athletic Director and school staff to ensure family communications are accurate and aligned with school expectations.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

  • At least one year of experience coaching or working with scholars in an athletic setting.
  • A belief that all scholars deserve a quality education and can earn a four-year college degree.
  • The ability to develop a positive, achievement-oriented, supportive, and collaborative culture of high expectations.
  • A growth mindset and commitment to continuously honing one's craft.
