Responsibilities
  • Clinical: Supervise the donor management coordinator (DMC) staff in all clinical aspects of donation process to assure strict adherence to LAORA policy and procedures, regulatory agency standards, and generally accepted industry best practices.
  • Provide DMC staff with guidance on clinical donor management to keep patients stable while maximizing the number of organs procured per consented donor.
  • Perform a clinical, independent assessment of potential brain dead and non-heart beating donors to ensure donor meets medical criteria for donation, e.g., evaluate suitability and appropriateness of organ donation to guide organ procurement staff with plan of action.
  • Formulate and implement donor maintenance plan in collaboration with hospital staff and on-site DMC to preserve transplantable organs on the basis of available clinical knowledge.
  • Perform Administrator On-Call (AOC) and Leadership On-Call (LOC) shifts as assigned.
  • Administrative: Analyze, strategize, and implement methods to improve performance among Donor Management Staff as needed.
  • Complete donor related documentation in LAORA on-line database and/or in donor chart while administratively interacting with DMC staff to keep an accurate account of case related details.
  • Ensure that legal and regulatory requirements are met in the process of procuring organs and/or tissues by providing constructive guidance to DMC staff.
  • Maintain and enforce standards amongst DMC staff established by applicable regulatory agencies on a case-by-case basis.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance Department to identify methods of improving operational practices based on data collected, compiled, and analyzed.
  • Supervisory: Complete DMC staff on-call schedule on a monthly basis to assure adequate coverage and equal distribution of duties as needed.
  • Assign Clinical Development activities to DMC staff in collaboration with Hospital Services Department which include, but may not be limited to: Death Record Reviews, Clinical in-services, hospital visits, etc.
  • Oversee day to day operations of DMC staff in the LAORA donor service area to ensure that all donor/referral information are accounted for and submitted to Quality Assurance Department as indicated by LAORA policy.
  • Moderate and conduct bi-monthly staff meetings amongst DMCs to keep staff informed of operational changes and/or updates.
  • Assure prompt and accurate communication of all memos, data or pertinent information to all PCs within the donor service area.
  • Periodically evaluate performance of individual DMC staff and provide additional training and guidance as needed.
  • Educational/Hospital Services: Provide support to grief-stricken families of potential organ donors, as well as enlist After-Care Program.
  • Work collaboratively with the Hospital Services sub-division staff to maintain working relationships with hospital personnel for the promotion of organ donation and procurement. This includes but is not limited to Hospital Policy revisions, clinical education, etc.
  • Provide technical assistance to the Sr. Director of LAORA in the coordination, planning and implementation of educational packages to promote organ donation among the public.
  • Collaborate with Hospital Services Manager and Staff to dispatch personnel for Clinical Development events (if needed) and meet with Hospital administration
  • Participate in referring physician/community education as it relates to organ donor awareness.
  • Assign DMC staff and/or participate in community seminars and workshops as needed.
  • Provide continuous education and training for all DMC staff.
