PTC has launched the FeatureScript MCP Server capability in its Onshape CAD and PDM platform. The tool enables engineers to create custom CAD features using natural language and AI, without requiring programming experience. The capability automates feature development through AI-assisted building, testing, debugging, and refinement. Engineers describe desired functionality in natural language, and AI helps build the custom feature in FeatureScript until it works as intended. Built on the Model Context Protocol, the server connects AI coding tools like Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini directly with Onshape FeatureScript code. The resulting custom features can be shared across teams without ongoing AI interactions or recurring costs. "The future of AI in CAD is not simply text-to-CAD, but text-to-code-to-CAD," said David Katzman, EVP and general manager of Onshape and Arena at PTC. The capability is available through PTC's Onshape Labs initiative.
PTC's shares have fallen 8.4% to $146.31 over six months, contrasting with the S&P 500's 10.9% gain, following softer quarterly results. The software company, which provides digital solutions for product design and development, shows mixed signals for investors. On the positive side, PTC demonstrates exceptional customer acquisition efficiency with a payback period of just 0.5 months. The company also maintains elite profitability with a 37.8% operating margin over the past year. However, PTC's annual recurring revenue growth averaged only 8.7% over the last four quarters, reaching $2.41 billion in Q2. This underwhelming performance suggests increasing competition may be challenging the company's ability to secure longer-term commitments.
PTC has launched Codebeamer 3.3, Codebeamer AI 1.2, and Pure Variants 7.3, enhancing its application lifecycle management portfolio. The updates address challenges engineering teams face when managing product variants and finding information. Codebeamer 3.3 introduces Delta Merge, which automatically applies approved changes across product variants, eliminating manual reapplication. It also adds role-based permissions for change approval control and deeper integration with PTC's Windchill PLM solution. Codebeamer AI 1.2 features an AI Search Assistant using semantic search to deliver more accurate results by understanding search intent. Pure Variants 7.3 includes Stream Transformation, which converts product variants into working sets that automatically update to reflect variant-specific features. The releases strengthen traceability and change management for automotive, medtech, federal, aerospace, and defence industries, helping manufacturers manage increasing product complexity whilst maintaining regulatory compliance.
PTC has launched Arena Connect, a new capability within its Arena product lifecycle management and quality management system. The tool helps manufacturers integrate business applications and automate workflows across their product ecosystem. Arena Connect features a visual workflow builder, a library of over 200 pre-built connectors, and workflow templates for systems including Jira, Microsoft Teams, and Slack. The platform enables automated data synchronisation between PLM, QMS, ERP, and other enterprise systems without requiring custom integrations. The release also introduces AI-powered product change summaries, automated bill of materials compliance checks, and enhanced Onshape-Arena connection features. PTC says the update supports its vision for the Intelligent Product Lifecycle, enabling manufacturers to build a product data foundation and accelerate AI-driven transformation. The company is headquartered in Boston and serves over 30,000 customers globally.
PTC reported second-quarter revenue of $600 million, missing analyst estimates of $608 million and marking a 6.8% year-on-year decline. The product design software company's adjusted earnings per share of $1.58 beat expectations by 1%. Despite the revenue miss, PTC provided encouraging forward guidance. The company expects third-quarter revenue of $660 million at the midpoint, 1.3% above analyst estimates. Management also raised its full-year adjusted EPS guidance to $8.15 at the midpoint, representing a 4.8% increase. Operating margin declined to 27.7% from 32.6% in the prior-year quarter. Annual recurring revenue reached $2.41 billion, slightly below the $2.46 billion analysts expected, whilst billings fell 8.2% year-on-year to $544 million.
