General Accountant

Overview

Location: Canton, MA

Hours: 8:30am-4:00pm, 35 hrs/week

Responsible for financial overview which includes all income and expenditures. Assisting Corps Officer(s) with budgets and reports. Supportive role to assist with other Corps-related needs and reporting requirements.

Responsible for the accounting overview of all funds for assigned Corps

Responsible for all necessary journal entries to maintain all accounts current.

Review support service monthly for accuracy.

Responsible for monthly verifying and recording all gifts in kind.

Reconcile bank statements for all assigned accounts monthly and present them for review and signature.

Process monthly/quarterly/annual financial reports, review for accuracy, provide analysis, and maintain permanent records.

Assist with preparing monthly billings and maintaining subsidiary records as assigned.

Assist in budget preparation for Corps.

Maintain working knowledge of the Serenic Accounting System.

Monitor the entries of tithing and donor related reporting including yearend tithing statements.

Assist with audit preparation, be available for questions and research for the auditor (s).

Research and prepare special reports assigned related to financial Corps activity.

Assist the Corps Accounting Manager with financial reporting requirements for Corps Proposals and Contract processing, as assigned.

Become familiar with Salvation Army policies and procedures relevant to Accounting and Contract matters.

Assists with other accounting-related duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
• Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in accounting procedures
• Familiarity with not-for-profit accounting is a plus 
• Must be able to multitask and demonstrate agility to meet assigned deadlines 
• Detail-oriented and organized in work 
• Self-motivated and able to function independently 
• Proficient skills in Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Word, etc.) 
• Excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills
