Requirements
  • Candidates must meet AR 95-20 qualifications and participate in hazardous flight duties.
  • A Federal Aviation Administration license may be required.
  • Two years of direct experience in aircraft maintenance or military technical school with an Airframe and Powerplant license is required.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Technical or military school training is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with other crewmembers to assess each aircraft part and plan aircraft servicing duties.
  • Service, repair, and overhaul aircraft and aircraft engines to ensure airworthiness.
  • Repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft structures such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, plumbing, and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, shears, a sheet metal brake, welding equipment, a rivet gun, and drills.
  • Read and interpret manufacturers' and airlines' maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and other specifications to determine the feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Perform aircraft servicing duties including flushing crankcases, cleaning screens, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
  • Service engines and airframe components at line stations and make repairs short of overhaul as needed to keep aircraft in safe operating condition.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
