- A current approved Alabama Board of Nursing registered nurse license or a multi-state license is required, or the candidate must be able to obtain one before starting.
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support Provider training is required.
- An associate degree in Nursing is required at minimum.
- Candidates must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
- Required certifications vary by clinical area and include Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Trauma Nursing Core Course, Neonatal Resuscitation, and Intermediate Fetal Monitoring.
- Candidates must be able to work varied schedules, including every other weekend.
- Candidates must meet the listed physical requirements, including lifting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, running in an emergency, and tolerating prolonged shifts.
- Physical presence onsite is essential.
- Plan, coordinate, and direct quality, compassionate patient care while maintaining professional nursing practice standards and creating therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Supervise LPNs, PCAs, PCAs/US, US, Orthopedic Technicians, and other non-licensed staff.
- Assess each assigned patient on admission and on an ongoing basis, including physical, psychological, social, spiritual, cultural, pain, nutritional, functional, developmental, age-related, and discharge-planning needs.
- Plan, provide, and document patient and significant-other education after identifying barriers to learning.
- Evaluate and regularly reevaluate patient care and coordinate care planning with patients, families, providers, and other disciplines to achieve patient-centered outcomes.
- Assign and delegate nursing care to team members according to patient needs and team-member capabilities.
- Apply safety principles when performing care.
- Accurately document observations, care provided, and changes in the care plan.
- Provide accurate handoff reports and participate in unit-based huddles.
- Assist with performance-improvement activities, including serving on performance-improvement teams, assisting with performance-improvement measures, and implementing necessary changes.
- Perform initial and annual competency assessments for the applicable job class.
- Maintain performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards outlined in the performance evaluation.
- Perform compliance requirements outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Adhere to DCH Behavioral Standards and DCH Health System policies and procedures.
- Perform essential job functions in a manner that ensures the safety of patients, visitors, and employees.
- Identify and reduce unsafe practices and take appropriate action to reduce risks and hazards.
- Use electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software, and the intranet.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
