Requirements
  • BSN is required
  • Current licensure to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Life Support Certification: Basic Life Support
  • Minimum of three years of experience in nursing (acute care preferred)
  • Demonstrates necessary clinical competence in area of nursing practice

Responsibilities
  • Develops, implements, and ensures compliance with Nursing Practice Guidelines
  • Supports staff participation in Shared Governance, nursing committees, and organizational councils
  • Maintains current knowledge of professional and clinical best practices and integrates evidence-based resources into patient care
  • Collaborates with leadership to support staff development, including nursing research, certification, and professional organization involvement
  • Demonstrates the clinical skills required to provide safe, high-quality direct patient care when needed
  • Assigns staff appropriately based on patient acuity and team skill mix
  • Aligns departmental goals with the organization’s mission and strategic objectives (in collaboration with the Nurse Manager)
  • Works collaboratively with other departments to solve problems, improve processes, and integrate services (in collaboration with the Nurse Manager)
  • Supports change initiatives and contributes actively to departmental improvements (in collaboration with the Nurse Manager)
  • Demonstrates flexibility and prioritizes workflow to meet departmental needs (in collaboration with the Nurse Manager)
  • Ensures timely, effective communication with staff and leadership (in collaboration with the Nurse Manager)
  • Facilitates patient flow using appropriate hospital systems and collaborates with the Nursing Supervisor (in collaboration with the Nurse Manager)
  • Monitors compliance with regulatory standards and standards of care
  • Reviews quality outcomes and collaborates with staff and leadership to improve patient results (e.g., NDNQI, Core Measures)
  • Works with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient satisfaction, compliance, and clinical outcomes
  • Identifies, measures, and improves key processes to support continuous quality improvement
  • Partners with the Nurse Manager to recruit, hire, and retain qualified staff
  • Participates in performance evaluations and ensures proper orientation, competency assessments, and continuing education
  • Supports staff development by promoting learning opportunities and recognizing achievements
  • Fosters an inclusive environment sensitive to diverse patient and staff needs
  • Coaches and supports staff by addressing issues and removing barriers
  • Communicates staffing concerns to leadership and manages appropriate delegation
  • Coordinates unit scheduling and staffing plans
  • Implements cost-effective staffing strategies
  • Ensures efficient use of resources while maintaining high-quality patient care
  • Promotes staff awareness of cost-effective practices and supports unit budget maintenance
  • Manages staffing systems (e.g., ANSOS) to ensure accurate payroll and staffing data
  • Monitors expenses and identifies opportunities for cost savings
  • Seeks feedback, practices self-reflection, and applies constructive guidance
  • Engages in ongoing professional development, education, and professional association activities
  • Maintains required continuing education, certifications, and documentation
  • Supports organizational and community initiatives

  • Complies with all policies, procedures, and departmental expectations
  • Demonstrates professionalism, service excellence, and effective communication with patients and colleagues
