The American Red Cross provides emergency relief and humanitarian aid by mobilizing volunteers, donors, and staff to respond to disasters and everyday needs. Its main activities include collecting and supplying blood, running disaster response operations, offering life-saving training (such as CPR and first aid), supporting military families, and promoting preparedness in communities. The organization works by coordinating volunteers, managing blood banks and donation drives, deploying resources during emergencies, and teaching people essential emergency skills. What sets it apart from many other aid groups is its nationwide network and established infrastructure that combines disaster response, blood services, and preparedness programs under one umbrella, backed by a steady flow of donations and volunteers. The goal is to prevent and relieve human suffering by being ready to help at any time, at home and around the world.

Pizza Cottage partners with American Red Cross to encourage blood donations in August 2026. August 05, 2026 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Pizza Cottage partners with American Red Cross to encourage blood donations in August. LANCASTER, OH - The American Red Cross and Pizza Cottage are teaming up this August to encourage Fairfield County residents to donate blood and help save lives. Now through August 31, anyone who donates blood at a Fairfield County Red Cross blood drive will receive a $5 Pizza Cottage gift card. The offer is valid only at Pizza Cottage's Pickerington, Lancaster, and Buckeye Lake locations. Pizza Cottage at W. Fair Avenue in Lancaster will offer community members an opportunity to donate blood on August 20 from noon to 6 p.m. "We are excited and proud to partner with the Red Cross again this August to continue supporting their mission," said Larry Tipton, owner of Pizza Cottage. "We hope the small incentive we are offering will motivate people to come out, donate blood and make a positive impact on the community during a nationwide blood shortage." The American Red Cross declared a nationwide blood supply emergency on July 13, 2026, after the supply fell by 25% in June. Medical professionals also tend to see more traumatic injuries between Memorial Day and Labor Day, making summer blood donations especially important. One blood donation can help save up to three lives, and because blood and platelets cannot be manufactured, donations are essential. While appointments are not required, they are strongly encouraged. Donors with appointments will be given priority. To schedule an appointment or locate the nearest blood drive, visit redcrossblood.org/give.html/find-drive or call 800-733-2767. About the Company Pizza Cottage is a collection of 10 Pizza Cottage restaurants located across Ohio owned by Lancaster entrepreneur Larry E. Tipton. Safety Village, Red Cross partner for fire safety initiative. The Chautauqua Safety Village and the American Red Cross have begun a new collaboration supported by a grant from the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation. The pilot project bridges the gap between simulated safety training and active home preparation with a goal to reduce fire-related tragedies in Dunkirk. This spring, 138 first-grade students from Dunkirk Schools 3, 5 and 7 attended fire and traffic safety training at the Safety Village facility. Students practiced what they learned in a simulated environment improving their response to emergencies. The Chautauqua Safety Village, the Red Cross, and Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation distributed critical safety resources directly to students' families. Each participating household received a fire safety ladder funded by the NCCF grant to provide a safe secondary exit from upper floors, alongside home fire safety resources from the Red Cross that help families physically map their layout, identify two routes out of every room, and designate an outside meeting place. Additionally, the materials include direct resource referrals and flyers connecting families to free, personalized in-home safety planning and free smoke alarm installations. Since its inception in 2014, the American Red Cross Home Fire Campaign has resulted in more than 2,600 hundred lives saved nationally, and 63 within the Western New York region. Moving forward, the project's goal is to encourage partnerships with Chautauqua County school districts.

Trios Health partnering with American Red Cross to host Blood Drive on September 14. July 28, 2026 Trios Health will host a blood drive with the American Red Cross on Monday, September 14, from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the Trios Care Center at Southridge. Community members are invited to join Trios staff in rolling up their sleeves and giving this life saving donation. "A blood donation is a meaningful way to support patients when they need it most," said Jean Lewis, Trios Health Laboratory Director. "From emergency care to surgeries and ongoing treatments, donated blood plays an important role in helping hospitals care for the people they serve." Blood is a perishable product that can only come from volunteer blood donors. With someone in the U.S. needing blood every two seconds, blood products must be constantly replenished, according to the Red Cross. "We encourage community members to make an appointment and help keep lifesaving blood available for patients in our region," Lewis said. "Taking time to donate can make a real difference for someone facing an unexpected medical need." According to the Red Cross, donors with all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, A negative and B negative. Appointments are needed to participate in the Blood Drive.
