Requirements
  • Graduate from an approved diagnostic medical sonography course that meets current qualifications to apply for and take American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers board examinations upon hire.
  • Be registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in obstetrics/gynecology and abdomen within 12 months of hire.
  • Hold a license from the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging.
  • Obtain a Basic Life Support certificate within 30 days of hire or before independent practice, whichever comes first.
  • Work with infant, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients and tolerate exposure to chemical solutions and human tissue or fluids.
Responsibilities
  • Perform all phases of diagnostic medical sonography, including abdominal, obstetrics/gynecology, breast, neurologic, small-parts, native and transplant renal and liver Doppler, and pediatric ultrasound procedures.
  • Provide quality real-time 2D, 3D, M-mode, and Doppler imaging applications using ultrasound equipment.
  • Evaluate normal and abnormal anatomy and related pathologies and present findings to the radiologist.
  • Recognize and report significant situations relating to patient care using responsible judgment.
  • Perform portable ultrasound procedures when needed.
  • Prepare and instruct patients for diagnostic studies using age-appropriate communication skills.
  • Optimize images during examinations to obtain the highest-quality study with minimal patient discomfort.
  • Perform the full range of examinations after completing technical competencies.
  • Assist physicians with invasive or specialized procedures, including amniocentesis, needle biopsy, localizations, and tumor-mass procedures, as directed.
  • Stay current with new ultrasound technology hardware and software upgrades.
  • Verify complete and accurate documentation of pertinent information.
  • Verify and initial orders in patient charts and correctly identify patients according to the Imaging Department Patient Identification Policy.
  • Label images with patient demographics, position, and other required documentation.
  • Complete scanning duties efficiently and accurately, including data entry, billing, verification, and ensuring images are stored in the Picture Archiving and Communication System.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of experience in a large hospital.
  • Vascular experience.
  • Registered Vascular Technologist credential encouraged.
