Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Graduation from a medical assistant program or one year of clinical-setting experience is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • The employee must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly.
  • The employee must be able to bend, stoop, reach, stand, walk, and perform normal rotation during an 8–12-hour shift.
  • The employee must be able to work closely with others, work protracted or irregular hours, work around biohazards and infectious diseases, work with hands in water, and potentially travel between facilities.
  • The employee must be able to use and care for printers, embossers, computers, and other equipment.
  • The employee must be able to communicate effectively with staff and patients, adapt to changing environments, work independently and in a team setting, and organize and prioritize work.
Responsibilities
  • Perform basic nursing skills under the direction and supervision of the practice physician or registered nursing staff.
  • Greet and escort patients to exam rooms, obtain initial information and vital signs, and prepare patients for physician visits.
  • Prepare exam rooms by maintaining cleanliness and ensuring supplies are available.
  • Assist with or perform examinations, tests, and procedures.
  • Schedule appointments and establish referral contacts as needed.
  • Assist providers during patient examinations and procedures.
  • Educate patients on follow-up expectations.
  • Maintain required quality-control testing logs.
  • Ensure medical equipment is in proper working condition.
  • Assist patients with completing medical documentation.
  • Perform office administrative tasks, including answering phones, taking messages, copying, printing, data entry, depositing cash, and other closing duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Completion of healthcare education coursework.
  • One year of healthcare experience.
