Requirements
  • The successful candidate will be a proponent of individual personal responsibility for themselves and their teammates: Sanctuary is an equal opportunity employer that does not favour one group (race, gender, etc) over another for any reason
  • Above all else, you have a consistently positive attitude and a willingness to do whatever it takes to create robust solutions to complex problems
  • Taking on a global-scale challenge that could create fundamental change appeals to you
  • You have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and enjoy working as a part of a multidisciplinary team
  • You have a track record of technical excellence and successful projects under minimal supervision
  • You are organized, learn quickly, attend to detail, and are excited by challenges
  • You are open to learning skills outside of your expertise
  • You have worked in R&D environments and you love it
  • Systematic and holistic approach to implementing improvements and/or troubleshooting issues
Responsibilities
  • Work with cross-functional engineering teams to develop new operations, processes, algorithms, and methodologies
  • Architect, implement, and test real-time software for teleoperation and telepresence
  • Setting up, piloting, and troubleshooting while on deployments (local or remote)
  • Participate and contribute in discussions about safety, risk analysis, feasibility, mitigation and implementation of analogous teleoperation and potential migration to higher control regimes for the robot
  • Take ownership of tasks which range from concept to actual hands-on implementation
  • Trying new, non-conventional methods for experimenting and scrutinizing existing methods used to ensure results and assumptions are valid
  • Communicate effectively to defend and discuss results, methods, algorithms, and plans
  • Keep your knowledge updated in the state of the art (not only the state of the praxis)
  • Solve telerobotics-specific research and engineering problems as they arise
Desired Qualifications
  • Fluency in C/C++, Bash Scripting, and Python
  • Masters or PhD in Robotics or Mechatronic Systems-related field (Computing Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering)
  • Knowledge of Teleoperation systems under time delay (extra points for force feedback, haptics, and telepresence)
  • Some experience with Model-based control, preferably with MATLAB/Simulink, and in particular with code generation
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of real-time systems for control and telemetry, in particular with mission critical and safety systems (with a human in the loop)
  • Familiarity with EtherCAT-based systems
  • Maker skill-set (ability and willingness to use different lab equipment and tools to produce things whenever required)
  • Experience with motion capture systems for VR/AR
  • Some experience desirable (not required) with ROS2 and DDS

Sanctuary’s mission is to create the world’s first human-like intelligence in general-purpose robots that will help us work more safely, efficiently, and sustainably. The company is committed to augmenting human creativity and has experience launching market-defining innovations rooted previously unsolved and deep scientific problems. Sanctuary hopes in the not-too-distant future, robots will help us explore, and prosper in outer space.
