Requirements
  • An associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in Radiologic Technology, or one year of experience working as an Imaging Associate.
  • Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiography (ARRT (R)); new graduates must be registered within 90 days of hire.
  • A current Basic Life Support card within 30 days of hire or by the end of orientation, whichever comes first, through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and proper radiological positioning in accordance with departmental protocols.
  • Competency in ensuring patient safety at all times.
  • Completion of continuing education biannually in accordance with Kansas State and American Registry of Radiologic Technologists regulations for current licensing and registration purposes.
  • Ability to verify physician orders, ensure the proper reason for procedures, and safely administer imaging contrast agents.
Responsibilities
  • Operate radiology equipment, typically under physician supervision.
  • Ensure proper patient identity by checking two forms of identification per hospital policy and confirming physician orders.
  • Attend and complete all mandatory meetings and in-services, as well as assigned continuing education.
  • Complete and maintain departmental competency checklists.
  • Effectively utilize resources and time.
  • Identify and report issues and concerns to effectively solve problems.
  • Participate in departmental and hospital-wide process-improvement projects.
  • Collaborate with others in a team environment.
  • Communicate exam requirements, risks, and benefits to ease anxiety and obtain informed consent.
  • Use proper radiation-protection techniques to minimize radiation dose to patients, fetus, staff, and self in accordance with the ALARA principle.
  • Act in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values.
  • Abide by Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information.
  • Maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with patients or clients and their representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
