Requirements
  • The employee must be at least 18 years of age.
  • The employee must successfully complete the Association's background screening requirements, including the required Level 2 Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse screening.
  • The employee must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The employee must know exercise equipment, general weight lifting, health and wellness, and how to demonstrate exercises.
  • The employee must adhere to the drug-, alcohol-, and smoke-free workplace policy.
  • The employee must hold a current Personal Training certification from a nationally recognized organization.
  • The employee must hold current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.
  • The employee must complete YMCA Blood Borne Pathogens training annually.
  • The employee must complete YMCA Child Sexual Abuse Prevention training annually.
  • The employee must have one year or more of experience in fitness.
  • The employee must comply with staff safety requirements and cleaning protocols.
  • The employee must complete additional training classes as recommended by the supervisor.
Responsibilities
  • Design and implement safe, effective, and enjoyable fitness programs tailored to each member's needs and preferences.
  • Maintain accurate records of members' progress and monitor proper execution, form, and technique when demonstrating exercises.
  • Obtain the YMCA Personal Training Contract signed by each client before starting training.
  • Plan and instruct individuals, small groups, and classes using a personalized approach that follows YMCA standards and guidelines.
  • Contact clients regularly to follow up on their fitness-program progression.
  • Enter availability into Appointment King at least one week in advance and schedule clients accordingly.
  • Arrive promptly for client appointments, act professionally, and comply with uniform and name-tag requirements.
  • Contact a referred client directly when unable to make an appointment.
  • Discuss and promote other YMCA programs.
  • Motivate members to commit to long-term participation.
  • Respond to and report accidents or incidents to the supervisor immediately.
  • Assist non-client members with machine usage and provide exercise advice only when it is safe and appropriate.
  • Encourage first-time users to complete the orientation process and refer possible medical conditions to the supervisor for further investigation or physician approval.
  • Identify equipment that may require maintenance, place an out-of-order sign on malfunctioning equipment, and inform the supervisor.
  • Ensure all participants wear appropriate exercise attire and footwear.
  • Return all equipment to its proper place after sessions, including properly restacking weights.
  • Attend regularly scheduled mandatory staff meetings.
  • Uphold staff safety requirements and perform cleaning protocols throughout the day.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Perform exercise activities requiring a full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity, and hand-eye coordination.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds and actively demonstrate exercise equipment.
