Position Summary:
Have you ever had an online order canceled because something was out of stock or wasted time going to a store to look at something the website said was available only to find out that it was not? This is the problem we are trying to help our retail customers solve to maximize shopper experience and on shelf availability.
As a Senior Software Engineer, Applied Machine Learning on the Insights team, you will be part of a fast-paced team that is pioneering products built on our BrainOS platform to revolutionize the Retail Inventory Analytics Space. You have the ability to quickly pick up new technologies and have a bias for delivering incremental customer value.
Our robotic solutions integrate multiple hardware and software disciplines in order to provide scalable solutions for our customers. You will have the opportunity to apply AI, ML and Statistical methods to build and iterate on detection models to extract actionable insights from sensor data including but not limited to object and text detection and recognition in wide ranging environments.
Essential Job Functions:
- Develop and contribute to our Python code base to provide new actionable insights for our customers.
- Leverage deep understanding and application of machine learning concepts and tool chains to deliver high confidence insights from data streams from our robot data capture and cloud processing pipelines.
- Demonstrate an ownership mindset where writing automated test cases ensure future release and feature quality as well as development productivity.
- Raise the bar by example in review, testing, and deployment of new features with a data driven approach to evaluating success criteria.
- Lead resolution of production and customers issues and engineer long-term solutions informed by identifying systematic understanding of root cause.
- Encourage and foster technical discussions by outlining pros and cons of multiple approaches with a point of view and a bias for action.
- Initiative to take responsibility for data engineering pipeline and data management type tasks where required.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- BS or MS in Data Science or applicable engineering discipline.
- 5 years of demonstrated experience in software development involving the training, refining and application of detection models to extract insights from data.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics:
- Experience with ML coding tools and workflows, i.e. pandas, pytorch, keras, jupyter notebooks.

Experience with computer vision, segmentation identification, transformer models and large language models as they apply to images vs. text.
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Grafana, Looker).
- Experience with SQL and database management.
- Experience with Python production level coding.
- Curiosity and drive to gain subject matter expertise in specific functional areas while keeping aware of the larger landscape of customer use case and value.
- Ability to analytically recommend a path forward where this is technical ambiguity.
- Clear and concise communication (verbal and written) skills.
- This role is onsite at our San Diego office. Candidates must live in San Diego or be willing to relocate. No remote work is offered for this job.

Salary Range:
The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in San Diego, California is $133,565 to $161,684. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Brain Corp is a multi-state employer and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
