T. Rowe Price faces persistent outflows in active equity despite Q2 revenue of $1.91B

T. Rowe Price reported second-quarter revenue of $1.91 billion, missing analyst estimates of $1.93 billion, while adjusted earnings per share of $2.57 beat expectations of $2.52. The results sparked negative market reaction due to persistent outflows in active equity products and ongoing fee pressure. CEO Rob Sharps described the active equity environment as "under pressure" and said challenges will likely continue as clients migrate toward lower-fee vehicles. Certain areas showed positive inflows, including integrated strategies and active ETFs. Management addressed analyst concerns about fee compression, noting potential future mergers and acquisitions if strategically aligned. The firm is investing in digital assets and tokenization as long-term opportunities. CFO Jen Dardis said the company will balance strategic investments with cost control, leveraging AI and automation to maintain low single-digit controllable expense growth.
