What You Will Be Doing:
We are hiring a Director of Test Operations to lead testing of Helion’s fusion generators and subscale plasma devices. You will work with challenging, diverse problems on advanced plasma devices surrounded by experts, while building and mentoring a team of scientists and engineers to accelerate Helion’s rate of innovation and deliver clean electricity to the planet. You will set the standard for how fast Helion goes from building a new fusion generator to collecting data, and use that data to contribute to future designs. You will report directly to our Chief Executive Officer at our Everett, WA office.
You Will:
- Set the standard for how fast
- Grow and mentor a team of experimental scientists and test engineers to accelerate the rate of experimentation and data collection from Helion’s fusion generators and plasma devices
- Partner with the research organization to identify and prioritize the highest-value areas of plasma physics and generator operation uncertainty to guide current and future test campaigns
- Maximize generator up-time through operations processes and tool improvement, and partner with the Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering teams on reliability upgrades
- Improve generator diagnostics (plasma, thermal, etc.) by partnering with the Research team to support development testing and implementation of new generator diagnostics
- Use data from generator operations to inform conceptual and detailed design decisions for upgrades and future designs in partnership with the Engineering and Research teams
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physics
- 8+ years of experience with 3+ years of technical management experience
- Experience with ownership of complex engineering projects (including schedule ownership)
- Expertise in design-of-experiment and hands-on data collection on complex multi-physics problems
- Expertise in leading employees with different experiences and backgrounds
- Experience applying both technical first-principles and analytical rigor to challenging problems
The pay range for this position is $177k-240k. This pay range may be inclusive of several career levels and will be narrowed based on several factors, including the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
