Requirements
  • Registration with the British Columbia Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
  • Minimum Health Care Assistant Provincial Certification.
  • Fluency in English, both orally and in writing.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Health Care Assistant or in another nursing designation in a continuing care setting.
  • Ability to perform tasks necessary for the position, including lifting and transferring clients.
Responsibilities
  • Observe residents for changes in status during bathing, washing, cleaning, dressing, and changing, and report changes in condition to the Nurse as soon as possible.
  • Participate in developing the Nursing Care Plan by sharing observations, information, and knowledge of residents’ needs and strengths.
  • Share resident information with nursing and health care team members so the care plan addresses individual needs holistically.
  • Bathe, shower, and wash residents according to the Nursing Care Plan and strict water-temperature-control procedures.
  • Transfer or assist with transferring residents in and out of bed and to and from wheelchairs, commodes, or toilets using ceiling lifts, mechanical lifts, transfer belts, and other applicable controls.
  • Feed or assist residents during meals and nourishment or snack times, serving the appropriate diet for each resident.
  • Provide routine treatments, including skin creams and bowel protocols, and care procedures under the direction of the Nurse.
  • Assist residents in travelling throughout the facility.
  • Observe and report changes in residents’ conditions to the Nurse using Collaborative Care Model guidelines.
  • Monitor residents’ activities of daily living.
  • Monitor resident activities and take appropriate action when problems or disputes occur.
  • Participate in evaluating care by contributing to the nursing team and interdisciplinary resident care conferences.

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with strengths in supervision, leadership, judgment, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience caring for residents with dementia.
