Requirements
- Must be a current University of Pikeville student in good standing.
- The work requires cleaning the laboratory, operating an autoclave, sterile benchtop work, hydroponic maintenance, polymerase chain reaction, and DNA analysis.
- Preferred experience includes Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Preferred capabilities include attention to detail, active listening, public speaking, written and verbal communication, and willingness to learn new things.
- The role requires working in heat, cold, light intensity, wetness, and humidity and performing keyboarding, reaching and handling, stooping and kneeling, crouching and crawling, and pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds.
Responsibilities
- Support faculty-led biological research in hydroponic agriculture, mycology, and molecular biology through hands-on laboratory work, analysis, and dissemination.
- Assist with day-to-day research activities, including cleaning the laboratory, operating the autoclave, sterile benchtop work, and hydroponic maintenance.
- Oversee associate student researchers in their day-to-day tasks.
- Maintain hydroponic plants and prepare roots for testing.
- Assist with literature reviews on related topics.
- Prepare research documents and papers and help guide associate student researchers during the process.
- Perform laboratory techniques such as polymerase chain reaction and DNA analysis.
- Present findings in oral and written form.
