TDS Telecom provides internet, TV, and phone services to residential and business customers across about 1,000 communities in the United States. It is expanding its fiber-optic network to deliver speeds up to 1 gigabit per second. Services run over a fiber network (and other networks) and are sold on a subscription basis through bundled plans. The company differentiates itself by serving rural, suburban, and small-to-mid-size markets with a broad range of connectivity solutions, rather than focusing only on urban areas, and by investing in fiber to raise achievable speeds. Its goal is to extend fiber coverage and improve the reliability and speed of its connectivity across its footprint while continuing to offer integrated internet, TV, and phone services to both residential and business customers.

What believers are saying

  • Q1 2026 added 40,000 marketable fiber addresses and 10,900 residential connections.
  • Granite State Communications adds 11,000 fiber service addresses in New Hampshire.
  • The 2.1 million address goal creates a clear multi-year fiber expansion roadmap.

What critics are saying

  • Cable and fiber overbuild in TDS markets compresses pricing and raises sales costs.
  • Fiber construction is capital intensive and delays would stall the legacy-network transition.
  • Subscription revenue still depends on TV and voice, which face ongoing cord-cutting declines.

What makes TDS unique

  • TDS Telecom is shifting to a fiber-centric broadband provider across rural and suburban markets.
  • It pairs residential, business, and MDU sales with local community engagement.
  • Leadership additions in sales, customer experience, and transformation support the fiber strategy.
