Requirements
  • Current Licensure as Registered Nurse in state of WV.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Certification in Infection Control.
  • Five (5) years’ experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care setting.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in infection prevention.
Responsibilities
  • Manages and coordinates all hospital activities related to disease transmission with emphasis on education, patient care issues and associate safety.
  • Selects, hires, manages and evaluates the performance and effectiveness of employees and facilitate the professional development of all staff to ensure clinical practice competence.
  • Lead and coordinate facility risk assessments, healthcare associated infection reviews, surveillance plans, and construction infection control risk assessments.
  • Serves as an educational resource for infection prevention and control and health care epidemiology by coordinating the development, delivery, and evaluation of educational programs or tools that relate to infection prevention, control and epidemiology.
  • Monitors health-care associated infections.
  • Assesses infection prevention and control problems and makes recommendations for corrective action.
  • Prepares the agenda for the Infection Prevention and Control Committee.
  • Initiates and revises infection prevention and control policies and procedures.
  • Provides assistance to department managers in development of infection prevention and control departmental policies.
  • Reports communicable diseases to the local health departments and state as required by law.
  • Provides educational presentations for orientation and ongoing in-services related to current recommendations and mandate as needed.
  • Consults with department leadership and physicians as needed to improve care delivery.
  • Serves as a resource for all departments and personnel.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities and committees.
  • Participates in short and long-range planning for the infection prevention and control department.
  • Provides consultation to Employee Health related to exposure determination, personnel infections, follow-up and current healthcare personnel vaccination recommendations.
  • Conducts outbreak investigations and initiates control measures.
  • Round on hospital units – correct deficiencies as needed and make referrals as necessary when problems noted; observe staff activities and provide feedback when deviations in practice are noted – provide one on one feedback.
  • Directs and reviews environmental sampling as necessary.
  • Participate and provide oral and written infection prevention recommendations for all construction, renovation, remediation, repair or demolition as part of a multidisciplinary team during preplanning, demolition, construction and commissioning.
  • Collects, prepares and analyzes healthcare-associated infection data; presents data to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Provides internal and external reporting of information and data as required by law, accreditation requirements and regulatory mandates.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate plans for an influx of infectious diseases.
  • May review Epic admission report by admitting diagnosis – identifies patients who may need monitoring for isolation precautions, possible post op complications/SSIs, conditions/diseases that require reporting to appropriate agencies.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing.
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience.
