- The candidate must be at least 17 years of age.
- The candidate must successfully complete the State of Florida Criminal History Background Check requirements and meet the Association’s background-screening policies.
- The candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- The candidate must not diagnose injuries, offer medical advice, or dispense or endorse commercial health products, including nutritional supplements, vitamins, performance-enhancing substances, and pain relievers.
- The candidate must hold CPR for the Rescue Professional, First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillator certifications.
- The candidate must hold a Lifeguard Certification.
- The candidate must hold certification from the Arthritis Association of America/AE and FA.
- The candidate must complete staff safety requirements and cleaning protocols.
- The candidate must complete additional training classes recommended by the Supervisor.
- Deliver safe, effective, and physically appropriate group water exercise classes under the direction of the Aquatics Coordinator or Program Director and in accordance with YMCA of Southwest Florida policies.
- Act professionally and dress according to requirements, including an approved swimsuit, jacket, and shirt.
- Arrive promptly for scheduled shifts and work as scheduled.
- Follow the format of the assigned class type and description.
- Be ready for class to start and finish on time, and schedule time for setup and takedown needed for efficient class performance.
- Ensure classes are safe and comply with industry standards and guidelines.
- Provide suitable music for a family setting.
- Become familiar with class participants, including their names, health concerns, and physical limitations.
- Maintain constant supervision of participants during class.
- Direct pool maintenance concerns to the Aquatics Director immediately.
- Ensure participants wear appropriate swim attire and footwear.
- Store all equipment correctly after the shift.
- Find substitutes for scheduled shifts when unavailable and communicate the substitute to the supervisor in a timely manner.
- Attend regularly scheduled mandatory staff meetings.
- Use the time clock, monitor the timesheet, and report corrections to the supervisor promptly.
- Participate in YMCA-sponsored special events and activities when possible.
- Provide a positive role model for members and guests.
- Uphold staff safety requirements, including department cleaning protocols, throughout the day.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
