- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
- The candidate must complete cast technician training as established by the department.
- The candidate must pass state and applicable federal criminal background checks for regulated areas.
- The candidate must be able to lift, push, or pull a minimum of 40 pounds.
- The candidate must remain focused for extended periods while applying casts or splints.
- Plan and perform casting, splinting, dressing changes, suture and staple removal, and application of durable medical equipment soft goods for patient diagnosis or treatment.
- Analyze fractures and determine the appropriate casting method.
- Cast, splint, and apply durable medical equipment as ordered by orthopaedic surgeons.
- Deliver patient care as directed by physicians.
- Obtain and document patient vital signs.
- Support medical staff in meeting patient needs and maintaining efficient outpatient-unit operations.
- Assist providers with requisitions and forms for examinations or testing and help patients and providers with medical office visits.
- Administer prescribed medication under the supervision of the attending provider.
- Perform qualitative and quantitative specimen tests and examinations.
- Obtain and document patient specimens as ordered.
- Document and report test results to the medical provider.
- Perform assigned point-of-care tests after training and skills testing and maintain related quality-control testing and logs.
- Schedule ancillary testing and diagnostic or therapeutic procedures as needed.
- Act as a chaperone during medical examinations.
- Ensure medical records and test results are available and complete for patient visits.
- Monitor the nurse call system, answer telephone calls, and relay information to appropriate staff.
- Provide information and assistance to patients, families, and visitors as instructed by the physician.
- Participate in the Quality Assurance Program.
- Generate required patient charge data according to outpatient procedures.
- Maintain supplies and equipment inventories, prepare orders, report needs, and demonstrate proper use and care of equipment and computers.
- Schedule and coordinate new and return appointments using the computerized system.
- Register patients, collect identification and billing information, enter data into the computer, obtain charts and fee sheets, and obtain required signatures.
- Assist with deposit of money and unit correspondence as needed.
- Process and mail letters to patients.
- Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant training is preferred.
- Two years of experience as a nursing assistant is preferred.
