Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited Vocational Nursing Program is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, is required.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service behavior is required.
  • Ability to work effectively with physicians, staff, and patients is required.
  • A Licensed Vocational Nurse license is required.
  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Fire Life Safety Training from Los Angeles City is required; if unavailable at hire, it must be obtained within 30 days and renewed before expiration.
Responsibilities
  • Escort patients to examination rooms and obtain and accurately record vital signs and medication lists.
  • Monitor patient flow and schedule and receive patients and appointments.
  • Assist physicians with examinations, treatments, and minor clinical procedures as permitted by the license.
  • Perform electrocardiograms, basic assessment, first aid, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation when needed.
  • Prepare and maintain medical records and patient charts with pertinent medical information.
  • Provide direct patient care and administer medications as directed by the physician.
  • Schedule diagnostic tests ordered by physicians.
  • Screen and refer telephone calls, handle patient calls, write correspondence, and return calls.
  • Receive and sort incoming faxes and obtain prior authorizations.
  • Perform basic secretarial and medical transcription duties.
  • Enter charges into the system accurately and promptly.
  • Serve as a liaison between physicians and other individuals.
  • Organize pharmacy refill requests for physician approval.
  • Apply care-plan or treatment-plan interventions and contribute to their evaluation.
  • Maintain patient privacy, safety, and confidentiality.
  • Maintain a safe environment in accordance with standards, policies, and safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with infection-control policies.
  • Provide logistical, administrative, clerical, and staff support to the Orthopedic Clinic and Department.
  • Communicate with and educate patients and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of experience in an acute-care or ambulatory-care setting is preferred.
  • Licensed Vocational Nurse Intravenous Therapy Certification from the California Department of Consumer Affairs is preferred.
