The Department of Integrated Studies in Education invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment in Second Language Education at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience directly related to Plurilingual Pedagogies and Critical Sociolinguistics. We seek a dynamic scholar and collaborative colleague with an exciting research agenda. A strong background in social justice education, through increasing the plurilingual competence of additional language learners (e.g., K-12 and/or adult education), both in and out of school and in several languages or language varieties, is an essential component of this position.
Teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, supervision of individual students, and assessmentof student work;
Funded research (applying for grants will be required)and other originalscholarlyactivities, as well as professionalactivitiesthat contributeto a larger discourse; and
OthercontributionstotheUniversityandscholarlycommunities.
QualificationsandEducationRequirements:
ApplicantsshouldholdaPhDdegreeatthetimeoftakinguptheappointment in Language Education, Applied Linguistics, or a related field, with a focus on plurilingualism and/or critical sociolinguisticsor a related field.ABD applicantswhose doctoral defense has been scheduled may be considered.The candidate must have English and French in their linguistic repertoire. Anadditional language would be an asset.
The successfulcandidatemust have knowledge of:
heritage, Indigenous or other minority language programs;
ethnolinguistically marginalized and/or racialized communities, with a strong personal connection; and
the sociopolitical context of language education in Quebec in an increasingly globalized, English-dominated world.
Assets for this position include:
elementary/secondary school and/or higher education teaching experience related to second language pedagogy in Quebec and/or Canada;
familiarity with the competency-based approach of the Quebec Education Program (QEP);
experience in language assessment;
familiarity with language frameworks (e.g. CEFR, CLB);
experience with qualitative/ethnographic approaches to research;
experience with mixed-methods research;
graduate supervision; and
teaching an additional language to learners of any age.
