Requirements
  • Two to four years of professional experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain, transportation analytics, freight brokerage, carrier operations, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of parcel, less-than-truckload, and full-truckload transportation; first- and middle-mile experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated experience using large datasets to identify trends, evaluate alternatives, and develop actionable recommendations.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and/or Google Sheets, including pivot tables, lookups, formulas, data manipulation, and cost modeling.
  • Experience combining, cleaning, and analyzing data from multiple sources.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
  • The ability to be proactive and highly accountable, challenge assumptions constructively, and use data to recommend better solutions.
  • A bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Analytics, Industrial Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Responsibilities
  • Analyze shipment volumes, lanes, pickup locations, weights, pallet counts, capacity, service requirements, and transportation costs to identify network optimization opportunities.
  • Develop data-driven routing recommendations covering carrier selection, transportation mode, consolidation strategy, and pickup structure.
  • Identify opportunities to combine nearby pickup locations, optimize pickup frequency, consolidate freight, and improve truck and trailer utilization.
  • Analyze opportunities to shift freight among domestic ground parcel, less-than-truckload, and full-truckload transportation based on volume, cost, capacity, and service requirements.
  • Evaluate current and forecasted transportation volumes for dedicated routes, multi-stop solutions, consolidation, and other network efficiencies.
  • Model alternative transportation scenarios and quantify the financial and operational impact of routing or carrier changes.
  • Develop and maintain routing analyses and recommendations for Logistics leadership review and approval.
  • Continuously evaluate the network as volumes, pickup locations, customers, and operational requirements change.
  • Partner with Operations to ensure routing and network recommendations are practical, executable, and aligned with facility requirements.
  • Analyze transportation data from the transportation management system, carrier reporting, shipment history, and internal systems to identify trends, exceptions, and improvement opportunities.
  • Combine, clean, validate, and analyze large datasets from multiple sources to create reliable transportation insights.
  • Build and maintain reporting for transportation key performance indicators, including cost per shipment, cost per pound, capacity utilization, pickup performance, delivery performance, and carrier compliance.
  • Perform lane-level, carrier-level, and mode-level cost analysis to support transportation decisions.
  • Identify root causes of transportation cost increases, underutilized capacity, service failures, and routing inefficiencies.
  • Translate complex transportation data into clear recommendations and actionable insights for Logistics leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Support improvements to transportation data quality, reporting, and transportation management system utilization.
  • Develop and document scalable transportation processes, routing standards, and analytical methodologies.
  • Identify, quantify, and track transportation cost-saving opportunities across the domestic network.
  • Develop financial analyses and business cases for proposed carrier, routing, mode, or network changes.
  • Establish cost baselines and measure realized savings following implementation.
  • Support carrier sourcing, requests for proposals, and negotiations through lane analysis, cost modeling, benchmarking, and scenario evaluation.
  • Assist with validating carrier rates, accessorial charges, invoices, and transportation cost assumptions.
  • Help ensure transportation decisions balance service requirements with broader cost and margin objectives.
  • Collaborate with Commercial and Finance stakeholders to evaluate transportation costs, quantify savings opportunities, and communicate the financial impact of proposed network changes.
  • Partner with Operations to monitor transportation performance and identify continuous-improvement opportunities.
  • Analyze recurring service failures, capacity constraints, missed pickups, and other transportation exceptions to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Monitor carrier performance and routing compliance and recommend routing or carrier changes when appropriate.
  • Support the Logistics Director with carrier scorecards, performance analysis, business reviews, and carrier evaluations.
  • Participate in carrier meetings and performance discussions, providing supporting analysis and data.
  • Support implementation of approved carrier, routing, and network changes while Operations retains ownership of day-to-day transportation execution.
  • Build working relationships across Operations, Commercial, Technology, and external transportation partners to coordinate and implement transportation changes.
  • Communicate transportation findings, performance issues, and recommended actions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Develop an understanding of the transportation network, carrier base, facilities, transportation flows, and transportation management system.
  • Become proficient in the transportation datasets and reporting used to manage network cost and performance.
  • Complete analyses of key lanes, pickup locations, shipment volumes, transportation modes, and carrier utilization.
  • Produce routing and cost analyses that identify actionable optimization opportunities.
  • Take primary ownership of recurring routing, lane, utilization, and transportation cost analysis.
  • Proactively recommend routing, consolidation, mode, and carrier changes supported by financial and operational analysis.
  • Build repeatable methodologies for evaluating transportation opportunities and measuring realized savings.
  • Independently own recurring routing, lane, and transportation cost analysis.
  • Identify transportation cost-saving opportunities through routing optimization, shipment consolidation, carrier selection, mode optimization, and network design.
  • Improve on-time pickup and delivery performance through carrier performance analysis, routing recommendations, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
  • Establish a data-driven future-state routing strategy considering consolidation opportunities, pickup geography, shipment density, carrier capabilities, transportation mode, service requirements, and cost.
  • Independently lead transportation optimization projects from analysis and opportunity identification through recommendation, implementation support, and post-implementation performance evaluation.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Tableau, Looker, Power BI, or similar business intelligence tools.
  • Experience with transportation analysis, including routing, lane analysis, freight consolidation, load utilization, cost modeling, or carrier performance analysis.
  • Experience with a transportation management system or similar logistics technology.
  • Working knowledge of first- and middle-mile transportation.
