The Opportunity
The Credit Risk Analyst internship focuses on practicing skills that play a crucial role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risk across USAA Bank. You will learn real corporate world sophisticated quantitative techniques to model and manage risks and provide critical insights to advise strategic decisions.
For Enterprise Risk Compliance interns, the opportunity may lead to selection into a two-year risk development rotational program following graduation. Rotational placings may vary depending on business needs.

The internship is based at USAA Corporate Headquarters in San Antonio, TX. Interns offered full-time roles may have the opportunity to work out of one of USAA’s satellite locations: Plano, TX and Charlotte, NC
What you’ll do:
Our Credit Risk Analyst Interns, work under direct supervision and following risk and compliance procedures and mentorship, perform routine work assignments and problem resolution to support other team members, including the following tasks:
- Executes analytical processes to assess risks and opportunities across the Bank’s consumer portfolios.
- Supports team members to deliver bank risk strategy by optimally providing analytical insights to peers and management.
- Begins conducting quantitative analysis utilizing extensive internal and external data sources.
- Executes qualitative analysis to support the team in departmental decision making.
- Research credit, product, and/or risk proposals and utilizes critical thinking skills to provide feedback in support of strong portfolio performance outcomes.
- Learns to maintain effective risk management frameworks which can identify, measure, or mitigate risk.
- Develops, maintains, and utilizes established reporting to supervise and escalate bank risks.
- May execute financial risk sensitivity analysis, credit and/or financial modeling infrastructure.
- Performs routine tasks under direct supervision and within established procedures and guidelines.
What you need to have:
To qualify, you must be pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university, and plan to graduate after the final day of the internship. Most of our interns participate the summer between their junior and senior years. Our 2025 internship will start on May 28, 2025 and last through August 8, 2025.
- Graduation date cannot be prior to August 8, 2025
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree at a 4-year accredited university in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, or other quantitative subject areas.
- Up to 2 years’ experience conducting research, applying information and analysis for work deliverables.
- Communication/presentation experience.
- Proven high attention to detail in execution of deliverables.
- Ability to identify issues and recommend solutions to tackle problems.
What sets you apart:
- 0 to 2 years related quantitative analysis experience in a subject area relevant to risk management to include statistical analysis, modeling, mathematics or other quantitative field strong problem-solving abilities.
- Solid understanding with SQL, SAS, R, Python, or other analytical / risk tools.
- Experience working in a banking or financial industry
- Graduation date between August 09, 2025, and December 2025

What we offer:
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the hourly range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual hourly rate for this role may vary by location. The range for this position is: $20 - $30.
Interns will receive an intern stipend to assist with expenses.
