THE ROLE:Xylem seeks to hire an entry level Systems Engineer to join the data center operations team.  As a member of the data center operations team, you will have support responsibilities for operational software, servers, and infrastructure in our Private Cloud Data Centers.  You will work with a team of highly skilled Linux, Windows, VMware, and Storage Engineers.   Ideal candidates will have a positive attitude, passion for technology, and system support skills.We offer a full benefits package to include Flexible Time Off (FTO)forsalaried positions, health, dental, vision, investment savings plan, and additional miscellaneous benefits. 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 

• Applies revisions to host system firmware and software and works with vendors to support related activities. 
• Support and maintain tools used by the team including the management of access, integrations, and upgrades.
• Review, follow and update procedures and documentation related to the teams activities, supported technologies, solutions and projects.
• Deploy environments using Infrastructure as Code concepts, tools, and processes.  
• Setup, configure and maintain Disaster Recovery requirements; participate in DR drills.
• Follow guidance and implement standards to efficiently manage solutions for a complex, multi-data center environment where stability, performance and recovery times are critical.
• Monitor and troubleshoot Linux and/or Windows issues in a virtualized environment.
• Work closely with Security Operations to maintain enterprise cybersecurity policies.
• Travel periodically to work in domestic and international data centers.
• Collaborate with peers in other departments to resolve problems.
• Participate in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities.
• Document processes and workflows.
• Participate in paid On Call rotation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent work experience.
• Experience with programming languages such as Python or a similar script language (PowerShell, Ruby, Bash) is required.
• Experience with workloads in a Linux and/or Windows environment.
• Excellent communication, prioritization, and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage time.
• Experience using common Microsoft Office tools to review, create and update reports.
• Industry-specific certifications are preferred.  Examples include but not limited to certifications from Microsoft, Red Hat, Cisco, and other vendors.
• Preferred experience with:
  • Common Atlassian tools such as Jira and Confluence
  • Git or similar source control tool
  • Automation and IaaS tools such as Ansible, Terraform or similar
  • CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab or Bitbucket Pipelines
  • Monitoring tools such as Datadog, Nagios, or SolarWinds
  • Docker, Kubernetes or similar container technologies

DAY IN THE LIFE:

In this role, this is a fully remote position but will require occasional travel to the US and Canada for meetings or support of our physical data centers if required.

SALARY:

The estimated salary range for this position is $80,000 to $100,000 plus bonus.Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location, and is not typically at the top of the range.
