Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in workplace experience, hospitality, workplace operations, conference center management, facilities, or related fields is required.
  • Demonstrated experience managing vendors and service providers, establishing expectations, driving accountability, and delivering results is required.
  • Proven ability to independently manage complex operations, projects, and initiatives from planning through execution with minimal oversight is required.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills are required to build credibility and engage confidently with attorneys, clients, business services professionals, vendors, and senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders, build consensus, and drive outcomes across multiple teams and functions is required.
  • Strong business judgment and decision-making skills are required, including the ability to anticipate needs, solve problems proactively, and operate effectively with minimal direction.
  • Strong planning, prioritization, execution, organization, attention to detail, and follow-through capabilities are required.
  • Strong financial acumen is required, including experience managing budgets, reviewing invoices, tracking expenses, and supporting financial reporting.
  • Experience overseeing facilities operations, building management relationships, maintenance programs, workplace projects, and office infrastructure within a corporate environment is required.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the operational leader for Workplace Experience services within the Washington, D.C. office.
  • Build relationships with attorneys, business services professionals, office leadership, and vendors to understand evolving needs and drive continuous improvement.
  • Anticipate workplace needs, identify service opportunities, improve operational efficiency, and enhance the workplace experience.
  • Manage day-to-day operations, resolve issues, and implement solutions aligned with firm objectives.
  • Manage daily operations across reception, the conference center, catering, pantry, food service, visitor experience, and meeting support.
  • Oversee conference room operations, visitor spaces, and workplace utilization using Eptura Engage or a similar space management system.
  • Partner with the Events Team, attorneys, business services professionals, and vendors to plan and execute meetings, events, and special initiatives.
  • Develop and implement service standards, procedures, and best practices for hospitality and conference center operations.
  • Resolve complex service issues and ensure timely follow-through on requests and commitments.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employees and visitors of the Washington, D.C. office.
  • Draft and circulate local office communications.
  • Manage relationships with hospitality, catering, cleaning, facilities, audiovisual, and other workplace service providers; establish service expectations, monitor performance, and hold vendors accountable.
  • Oversee day-to-day facilities operations to keep the office safe, functional, and maintained.
  • Lead workplace projects, office improvements, space planning initiatives, and operational enhancements from planning through implementation.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with building management, engineering teams, and facilities vendors.
  • Conduct regular audits of conference rooms, common areas, office space, visitor spaces, hospitality areas, workplace amenities, and back-of-house operations.
  • Manage maintenance requests, monitor service levels, and ensure timely resolution of facilities-related concerns.
  • Partner with vendors to identify service enhancements and operational improvements.
  • Ensure vendor compliance with contractual, insurance, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Support business continuity, emergency preparedness, and office response planning.
  • Monitor workplace-related expenses and assist with budget planning and forecasting.
  • Review and approve vendor invoices, track expenditures, and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Maintain operational records, metrics, and reporting to support informed decision-making.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience within a law firm, professional services, financial services, or similarly high-touch corporate environment.
  • Experience managing workplace technology platforms and service operations, including space and meeting management systems such as Eptura Engage and ticketing systems such as ServiceNow.
  • Familiarity with the service expectations, culture, and pace of a law firm or professional services environment.

Magic circle law firms overtaken by US rivals as profits slide

London's "magic circle" law firms have been overtaken by US rivals as the most profitable in the City, according to Law.com analysis. Only one magic circle firm, A&O Shearman, now ranks among London's 10 most profitable partnerships, down from three last year. Paul Weiss, a New York firm, tops the rankings with average revenues per lawyer exceeding £2 million. A&O Shearman placed 10th at £1.2 million. Of 18 firms averaging over £1 million per lawyer, 14 were American. US firms in London grew revenues by 14.7% last year, double the 7.1% growth of British counterparts. They're also outbidding UK firms on salaries, with top US firms offering newly qualified lawyers £180,000 compared to the magic circle's £150,000. Kirkland & Ellis leads in partner payouts at over £8 million each.

Freshfields deploys Anthropic's Claude AI to 5,700 staff globally, usage surges 500% in six weeks

Global law firm Freshfields and AI company Anthropic have signed a multi-year agreement to co-develop AI legal workflows and deploy Claude across the firm's 5,700 employees globally. Within six weeks of initial deployment, usage increased by approximately 500% through Freshfields' proprietary AI platform. The collaboration includes firmwide deployment across 33 offices, spanning all practice groups and business services. Freshfields and Anthropic will co-develop legal-focused AI applications and agentic workflows for tasks including legal research, contract review, document drafting and due diligence. Through its Freshfields Lab, the firm has created platform solutions integrating Claude, providing secure access to AI-powered workflows connected to institutional knowledge. The partnership aims to deliver faster, more efficient legal services whilst maintaining security and compliance standards. Freshfields is also an early adopter of Thomson Reuters' CoCounsel Legal, rebuilt using Anthropic's technology.

Shareholders Are Showing Signs Of Dei Fatigue As Activists Push For More Votes

Shareholders are increasingly showing signs of DEI fatigue as political heat around the issue intensifies across corporate America. Both champions and critics of diversity, equity, and inclusion policies are again pushing companies this annual meeting season to either bolster or diminish their DEI policies via shareholder proposals. But so far, none of these proposals have garnered support from investors at Apple (APPL), Costco (COST), and John Deere (DE). And that's not expected to change as more votes are tabulated at more company shareholder meetings in the coming weeks and months, according to experts who follow these votes. "I don't expect this year that we will see many, if any, get majority support," said Elizabeth Bieber, head counsel for shareholder engagement and activism defense at Freshfields. "And I would expect that, when we look at the numbers, year over year, that we actually see waning support, regardless of which ideological side the proposal tends to fall on." As of the end of February, a total of 21 "anti-DEI" proposals and 16 "pro-DEI" proposals were set for a vote this year among publicly traded companies included in the Russell 3000, according to the voting recommendation firm ISS-Corporate
